To the very knowledgeable passive investors on PC, I would be grateful if you could share your list of ETFs, especially of Blackrock and Vanguard in the global investment platform that Australians can invest in that will by-pass the copious tax administration, such as filling W8BEN-E and related forms.

I can fill simple W8BEN-E in the SMSF but outside of it, the process is copious and there is no let off regardless of the scale of investment involved!

Your list includes VEU and VTS. In regards to the VEU, Computershare sent me the W8BEN-E form to be filled up. It seems being listed in the ASX does not bar US from requiring Computershare to get these tax related forms to be filled up. It beats me why they list them in the ASX and still exemption from US tax has to be processed! Is Computershare just mistaken in requiring such forms to be filled up?

So, until the above is sorted up I rather not get bogged up with form filling and look for 'US tax safe' ETF for investment in the ASX.

That list is fine. Look at where the ETF is domiciled in AUS, ones that have US require extra tax forms

And a heads up, some share holdings require the holder to self-certify under the FATCA the holder is not subject to tax by other countries. This can be over and above the forms you've already received. Had to do it for VGS, PIC,PMC and, heavens above, WHF!

Check My Profile. No not my profile, the one in Computershare.

    Thanks for your caution.
VAE is not in the list of ASX ETFs but I just bidded for some. I think it should be safe in terms of needing to fill up forms!

Blackrock seems low cost and high performance in some of their ETFs eg IVV. I have basically bought ETFs with these characteristics and dealt with W8BEN-E forms as best I could. When they are too onerous, requiring additional forms to be filled in I got rid of them! Muddling through in a way!
