Could someone please let me know if there is a free book online that tells you the estimate cost of materials?

    for example:

    1. brick
    2. aluminium windows
    3. frame/ truss
    4. etc

iam trying estimate the cost of each individual items from a plan to determine the overall cost.

Just a rough level of estimate

a break down of material pricing.

Do you find it useful to estimate the overall cost of building a house?

As a ball park figure. Different designs, different shaped/sloped lots can change the price alot.

Wouldn't you just get a number of quotes from a number of builders ? and then compare them? to see who gives best value. the cheapest may not necessary be the best builder. Also there are site costs, and many other extras that some builders may or may not wish to add in. Having an estimator helps in learning process but if you bring a book with figures (they will just say sorry not interested). It would be better to speak to a few builders with detailed quotes and iron out the ones you want.
