Essendon found guilty of doping in 2012 this morning by WADA after ASADA did not.

34 players involved. 12 currently playing for Essendon, 5 at other clubs and the rest no longer playing or retired.

Those 17 will play no part in 2016 so Essendon's season will basically be a write off.

Carlton Blues spokesperson said "yay we can come 2nd last this year" :p

Feel sorry for the people who got an Essendon membership and a Dick Smith voucher for Christmas, they are off to a shocker

I mostly feel sorry for the other clubs - Port Adelaide, Melbourne, Bulldogs, etc who have ex Essendon players. They've traded some other player or draft picks for those players and now can't play them.

They knew the risk when they traded or signed the Essendon players.

Strange that St Kilda gave up so much in trade for Carlisle.

3 years to reach that decision is an absolute farce. 4 years once this is finished, average AFL career is 3.5 years.

RE Membership: Don't feel sorry, they will still be playing games - I will still receive what I signed up for (albeit a watered down version)

Absolutely. The club and the players should have admitted to cheating when they first self reported 3 years ago, instead of dragging it out this long.

There's no if about it. It's a done deal. If the afl don't strip him of the brownlow, then Wada will enforce it.

    You reckon?

"Watson could be stripped under a WADA code ruling which says athletes will forfeit "any medals, points and prizes" won from the time of the offence to the start of a suspension, "unless fairness requires otherwise"."
Essendon CAS verdict: Jobe Watson could be stripped of Brownlow Medal, review in February | theage.com.au

In the slight probability that the afl does not strip him off the brownlow, do you think WADA will allow it to happen?

Was reading a review that had me thinking port had a shot this year... and they lost 2 players thanks to Essendon too :(

Eagles will be very strong. They were missing so many guys last year and still did alright.

Geelong likely to smash it too. They have a few stars and incredibly soft draw.

Yeah port have been hit hard but should be able to cover those players. Bloody harsh penalty - you get less for murder these days. 5 weeks would have been a better penalty starting from nab cup.

Out of interest, why do organisations like ASADA and WADA get involved?

Is it mandatory for all professional sport organisations or is it an "optional" procedure put in place by the AFL?

AFL is a member of the asada / wada code so has to impose their rules amongst its clubs.

Gill said otherwise today, anyway moot point really important. Gut feel Watson will hand back voluntarily and that will be the last we see of him. Sad really, have a read of his tweets from just yesterday.

The whole process was rotten - had a quick read of the CAS finding, point 145-147 interesting
