    hi PCers what suburbs in Melbourne would you consider to be the closest equivalent suburbs to the following in Sydney. Understand this can be tricky to compare, I'm just interested in people's general thoughts. Ta

    Point piper
    Bellevue hill
    Double bay
    Woollahra
    Mosman
    Drummoyne
    Balmain
    Manly
    Chatswood
    Parramatta
    Blacktown
    Penrith

    The only suburbs I've heard of from that list are Balmain, Manly, Parramatta and Penrith. No prizes for guessing why.

    At a guess-
    Manly = St. Kilda and surrounds
    Balmain = Yarraville/Seddon
    Parra = Sunshine
    Penrith = Werribee

    Manly's probably the hardest to find an equivalent for, St. Kilda is really the only inner beachside area in Melbourne.

    Frankston = Umina (Mt Druitt by the sea)

    Cranbourne = Seven Hills (Afro influences)

    Carlton = Glebe/Newtown/Rozelle foodies/ethnic mix but more bohemian.

    @bythebay - most of those suburbs are harbourside or within 10km of the cbd in good areas.

    The first five or so would equate to 2raq without the waterviews. But I'd say is closer to Snives or Killara (old money upper north shore and no harbour)

    South Yarra - Double Pay fashion without the pricetag or pretense.

    Richmond would be similar to Surry Hills rag trade vibe.

    Check out the ABS for stats in each area - the differences are enormous.

    Anything bayside unless you are after the aircraft noise ;) Then it's Avalon.
