I know that if I have my own domain name eg: [email protected] I can change internet providers without batting an eyelid and keeping the same email address.

Can I keep my email address of [email protected] when I swap provider when NBN hits town or do I need to stick with the same Telco?

I don't know specifically what Bigair offer in the way of email addresses (and whether you can continue to use it without being a customer of theirs) ... but typically you lose access to your ISP-provided email address if you close your account with them.

Which is exactly why you should either use Gmail/Outlook or get your own domain - because it is then independent of your choice of ISP.

I never advise using your ISP's email.

Lots of people have their previous ISP emails still. Need to talk to whichever one you're using to find out the cost / process / possibility.

You will not be able to keep it unless you keep paying them. They need to have an account in their system for you to do something for all mails arriving at scott@... and they won't do it for free. There is no way you can receive those emails on another server. Most people who change ISPs put a forwarding on their email addresses and keep paying the older ISP some amount.

I know one of my old ISPs had a $5 per month "email only" plan. But seriously - for $5 per month you can get yourself a business G Suite account, so why would you bother paying your ISP for an address?

Move to a non-ISP email address now, put in a forward on the old address and stop using it for anything (ask friends/family to use the new address) ... and if you move ISPs, only pay for your old email for a while until you are happy that no more important emails will be missed.

Don't know why anyone would pay for personal email when there is Gmail and other options available.

    .
Still carrying an old #email address from years ago but still with the new owners (only used bigair as an example & have lost many old addresses in the past) - just hopeful that they were portable like phone numbers.

Way too much cannibalisation still in the industry - nextgen bought by vocus and being phased out, amcom by TPG (who does not hold a carrier licence but owns pipe networks, AAPT, Soul and others).

I have a Bigpond email address - had it for 20 years and don't want to lose it. I pay $25 a year to Testra to keep the email address alive, accessible and usable, even tho I am no longer with Bigpond.

Perhaps your ISP provider has something similar

SNM, the first email at the nomates.com.uz domain is completely different from the bigair.com.au email address (unless they are both hosted at the same domain, or an alias for one or the other... NOTE: ignore this bit if it too weird..).

Are you changing from 2 Domain hosts, ie. nomates.com.uz and bigair.com.au or are you dumping either or both as an ISP for NBN?

@Ted Varrick - I'm neither with Big Air or with a carrier in Uzbekistan but paying for access for an old domain which is no longer offered (bought out by a TPG entity) but not keen to keep paying them for my main email address (all too many things come through it).

FYI Amcom is owned by Vocus (merger) which is now owned by M2 not TPG.

But yes many ISP's will offer dialup account or email only plan... if you can find someone who knows in sales how to link it
