Is it common / possible to ask for a full day rate for an electrician? Or is it more per task for example amount of light to replace.

Is it better to use specialist electrician per task or just ask one that can do it all.

I have quite a bit of electric work to be done:
    10x smoke alarm
    2x AC installation
    8x security camera
10x new power outlets throughout the house
    2x new outlets outdoor
    5x downlight replacement
install some network cables from the garage to a room, approximately 6m away.
3x flat tv to the wall

Mine just charges $80 an hour plus tax, but he works fast. Should be able to get one to do it all

Pre-covid, the day rate was ~$600. Don’t know what it is now.
Bear in mind, that’s just labour. You need to factor in parts and material as well. If they bring an offsider, that’s another $200.
Sometimes, it’s easier just to get them to quote the whole job, that way, you won’t get stressed every time they take a smoko, run to the shops, take their long phone calls etc.

For that scope of works, it'll run into the $X,000's. It will exceed the minimum amount for insurance as well, so factor in that cost as well.

There'd be no way you would proceed without a quote or 3.

Sparkys are very expensive in bris gc atm.

We recently spent 5 k for a job I thought was about 3 or 3.5

    Getting one is the key.

Home Owner Warranty Insurance - contractor takes this out at your cost but covers you if they fail to meet their obligations eg defects, cease trading, die etc.

I don't think day rates are that common, set point pricing or hourly rate. I would think everyone is too busy to discount.

A sparky could do it all as long as they have:
    Electrical contractors licence
    Security license
    AC restricted license

You can ask but unlikely to get anyone.
Infact with that list of work and asking for a day rate, Tradespeople would be less likely to engage as they would see you as a high risk. As you have already tried to find a way to screw the price down.

Depends where you are.. I had pretty much a similar amount of work recently, and they just quoted me a whole job figure. They knew, and I knew there was a lot of padding on that.

They know they can pretty much ask what they like up here in Brisbane right now..

Was not cheap..I didn't have any change out of $2k  and it was only 3/4 days work, but they did a great job and I got it done in 2 weeks of quote.

If I had mucked around with extra quotes I might have got it cheaper, but I'll get it back easily enough on the sale.

Wow. A good sparky costs $60 an hour to employ. That's insanely cheap.
