The first step would be to remove stakeholders from holding the Electoral decision making office - and form an independent system of oversight, as we have in Australia.

There is a very good reason that electoral manipulation occurs more in Republican states than in Democrat states.

    There's more Republican governments.

Both sides have been guilty of various forms of boundary manipulation and voter manipulation ever since they first formed.

Australia's body to supervise elections and boundaries is one step in the right direction. Just a few states in the US have independent boundary bodies (California being one).

Pointing out that the other side also has issues is pointless.

True - but found it interesting that the Republican held states are trying to suppress votes, whereas the California (a Dem state) is trying to force registration

Yet the independent body drawing boundaries came about under Schwarzenegger's Republican government. It had some bipartisan support, but was opposed by the California Democratic party. It was only passed by a very small majority.

Both parties have their good and bad faces.

Which amplifies the need for an independent body

    Agreed.

And it would be better for an independent body to also be in charge of voter registration, away from the influence of politicians.

Australia has done a few things right in running a democracy. The independent body is one of those things.

Running an election on a day that many people don't have to work. Now there's a novel idea.

I didn't even know until I was at high school in the US that the secret ballot is also known as the Australian ballot.

And people in Texas who are voting using the voting machine are finding if they choose the straight Democratic option, when they get to the end and check, their vote has gone to the Republican candidate Ted Cruz.

It would seem that this may be a user problem that has been around for 6 years and affects both parties.

Surprised you didn't fact check this but then I would guess that you are happy to believe an anonymous post on an Australian property forum as long as it suits your hatred of Trump.

My bad - and you are right, I usually fact check but nothing surprises me lately. This is not about a "hatred" of Trump - but disbelief at the widespread corruption throughout the US electoral system (that has been abused by both parties but lately by one overwhelmingly)

Pity the problem wasn't fixed years ago ... with the overseer Secretary of State being a Republican who also happens to be running again.

It might seem archaic - but I kinda like our pencil and paper version

I heard a report today that four states had propositions before them during the midterms to form independent electoral boundary bodies.

One of them.is Utah, a very strongly leaning Republican state. A bipartisan committee is supporting the proposal. However, one Republican claims that the ability to control boundaries is one of the spoils of electoral success.

I'm burnt out from the "stuff" that is coming out - the lies - deceit - manipulation - hanging out for Tuesday, whichever way it goes
