I got divorced last year. I didnt really lose any money as I only ever viewed half as belonging to me in the first place. We sold up, so definitely lost in transactions costs.

There are, however, more important things in life than money, such as happiness. I am far richer in many aspects than I was last year. My life is completely different - have new house in another state, new partner, new job. Life is good.

Dont let money dictate how you life your life.

I got very lucky with my wife. Relationships are easy when you are both on the same page. They are very hard work when you are not.

    I am a fair man,
if I was married and when it came t oasset splitting, if an asset was acquired together, id be more than happy to give half,

but if its an asset I owned prior to meeting, and on top of that she is enjoying the rental income (assumign is postiive), she doesnt deserve any of it

I agree. When we split our assets i kept the assets that i had accumulated solely in my name. My ex husband kept the assets he had accumulated in his name and anything shared got split in half.

I would never seek to take something someone else had worked hard for and i had no involvement. I do realise different situations will apply depending on the relationship. Its just what works for me.

    Lots of people get greedy/spiteful.
Then the only ones making money are the lawyers.

There's a very severe penalty for multiple spouses.

    Multiple mothers in law.

Working long hours does not always cause a divorce and is not always the reason for a divorce.

The question was how do you recover. Not how to not let it happen.

I've seen a lot of people especially women grow into the person they are meant to be after finally having the courage to leave a suppressive marriage.

The great news is that all you lose is money so recovering is easy.

If you still have your health and intelligence, you can start over and this time you would need permission from no one to give it your all.

You can lose a lot more than that, time, access to children, assets that are not so easy to recover if you´re half way through life and paying child support. Some guys get totally burned by women and don´t recover (not me).

    I hear ya.
If my husband leaves, I will get totally burned too and have to pay him half the value of all my businesses and properties.

But I will recover and rebuild its only money.
