I didnt talk to my sister for 18 years, essentially since we were teenagers. We reconnected a couple of years ago. We'll never be best friends, but its much better than it was... and i get to see my neice who i adore.

Over the years i think we'd mainly forgotten why we didnt talk, it just became the norm to dislike each other.

As they say 'you can pick your friends (and nose) but you can't pick your family'. ;)

Quite true, but your family (if you get along with them) will be with you for a lifetime. Friends come and go.

There are friends that are like this too... they are few and far between. I do hope I will be this kind of friend for others

I am very very fortunate to have a great family..we dont actually see eachother that often. But we dont fight over money stupid things politics. We all have compatible views. We have no people who are selfish or narcisstic or materialistic.
    Sure we all are different

    But i an very grateful.

Well. 3 cousins. 2 uncles 1 auntie all make it a tiny family

In fact i havent seen one cousin for 10 years due to being overseas!

I miss my family - we're all over the place but when we get together we have the best time. I never laugh so much as I do when I'm with them. Dry, sarcastic, witty people. And then there's Mum, who's just fluffy and joyful like a puppy who bakes.
Love em! Very blessed in that regard.

Speaking of dysfunctional and hearing stories from friends about theirs, I believe I am a really lucky chap. None of my parents, siblings, their spouses, nephew, nieces and even close in-laws are even a bit dysfunctional. There are a few distant relatives, but we don't interact much.

Been fortunate with family too, we seem to accept each other's weird traits and have had no major issues

True friends I can count on one hand, quality over quantity. My best friend known now for over half my life and she is like a sister I think that makes me a lucky person

I scored the trifecta of dysfunctional. I love spending my down time here on PC because you all seem so genuinely rational, nice, positive and intelligent etc.

But you have not met me yet :p

BTW, just curious how many people have you actually met up with on PC?

Met up with? At least 3 for an entire day, then several more for shorter times. I ran a couple of meet ups last year, I was in Heaven surrounded by so many smart people. Sorry but the bunch I work with during the day seem to come from a different planet.

Why? Did someone tell you how weird I am :)

Love being surrounded by you lot too. My first meetups from SS were a real good eye opener for me (thanks @Simon Hampel!)

Btw. I'm lucky my colleagues are pretty cluey and intelligent (for the most part). :)

Thankfully our family has managed to skip the dysfunctional gene!

Even our solicitor commented how easy it was to settle our mum's estate. She said that with four siblings there is almost always at least one who causes problems...

I see this a lot in Spain.. they like to keep grudges, who knows what for. how ridiculous.

I have a sister terrible with money and attitudes to investing, I used to loan (/give) her cash to pay off the visa card. Then she married a bloke worth millions.. and she paid back the loan with interest (!).. and her attitudes to investors have changed somewhat (!). But i would never lose contact with family members, I just try to adapt and not discuss the wrong things.
