If you're planning to spray some flower pots with a dulux color spray, do you need to spray a primer first then let it dry, then the color spray?

    Thanks

For a quick flip - buyer beware.

For an upmarket garden apartment, follow the directions on the pack.

Do you know what the flower pot is made out of? Plastic, clay, etc?

Use Dulux Weathershield if you can. It’s self-priming and good for use on pots!

nope, it’s self-priming paint meaning it already has primer in it :)

I rang dulux and checked a few things. The paint recommendation here was spot on, thanks guys.

The only thing they alerted me to( luckily they did) was to make sure the pots are water sealed from the inside first. Otherwise the moisture from the soil would eventually peel the paint. I rang pots company and they don't come sealed from the inside.

So, after I factor in the cost of paint, sealer etc...I may save $200 doing it myself as opposed to getting the shop to do it. A service they provide. So it's a no brainer now, I'll get them to seal, paint and deliver.

Thanks for all the educational feedback.

    Ok so the plot thickens.

The pot company charge extra to seal each pot. The general, aka the Mrs told me to get off my lazy tuchus and seal/paint it. :oops:o_O

So going to buy pots as is, seal em then paint with weatherproof. Save around $400 too.

I am a bit confused by Dulux recommending you to seal the pots from the inside? They are concrete pots. Yes, concrete is porous but it shouldn't affect the painting of the outside?

They said the moisture from the wetness on the inside could affect the paint on the outside. The pot company also strongly recommended I seal them.

Okay I can see where they are coming from with that advice but I don't see this being a relatively big issue to be honest. I think the paint will be fine either way. Why not try to do it and if it starts to have issues in a few months/years, then you can seal it? Saves you money now not having to do it and you might get away without sealing the inside.

I was thinking that. Though the cost for me to seal it is only $88 for the sealing mixture...so may as well..

Fair enough! Up to you haha! Might just take more time but at least you're doing it all correctly from the get-go!
