    Hi,
Our Daikin ducted air- conditioner stopped working after 5.5 years. Missed the warranty by 6 months!

Technician said it would cost $2000 to fix it!

We have a large house with 6 bed rooms. Is it worth installing another ducted system again? Or is it better to install multiple smaller systems?

Do we have any or do you know any reliable ducted air-con installers?

Its up to you how to proceed. However if it were me, I would be holding the manufacturer to consumer law. That is assuming you purchased the original item.
We have done this on smaller items, eg fridge, mobile. Both had successful outcomes where as there was no out of pocket expenses for us.
Assuming ducted cost you $10k, I would say $1800 per year is not a reasonable life of the product.
If you choose to fix or replace. It's going to be a large out of pocket expense. Best avoided if you ask me.
See below for some more info in guiding your decision.

It would be cheaper to fix than start over.

If all the ducting is in place, fire dampers air vent diffusers are all still good then that part does not need replacement, maybe the ducting needs to be blowout and have the system evaluated and the hygienic standard inside the air duct checked, all you need is a new unit,a new unit these days are a low cost item as apposed too a total strip out and refit..imho..

No fire dampers as it would be residential.

Can you claim fusion on your insurance policy?

Sent an email to Daikin asking if they can fix it quoting 'reasonable life of the product'. Thanks @Raydar.

As @willair mentioned, I got a company (who has good reviews) to come and give a quote to replace the unit & control panel. He thinks it would be around 8K. Current system is 16kW heating and 14kW cooling.

We don't have a content insurance

@devank , i use Bluestar Air con in Lansvale.
Their prices are cheaper than others and their service and installation is better than most. A rare combination that still exists!

Had a chat with them. They expect the cost to be 9K! They claim that they need to redo the upstairs to provide 5 year warranty.
Instead, I could install 8 smaller reverse cycle split system all around the house for that kind of money :)

Why can't they swap out the units? They must be quiet (it's winter).

What about all the additional power outlets and wiring? Will you require 4 extra circuits? Might be cost effective for installation but running costs will kill you.

I don't know why they can't simply swap the unit & control panel. There was no talk about extra circuit board.

Daikin came back offering 10% discount ok their repair quote. It is $1600 now. Considering the massive cost of replacing the unit, I'm thinking of going with repair. Even just one more year can justify the cost.

Realised that after looking at other ducted solutions.
Repair it now and fight another day :)

Thank you Raydar. I used your argument to reduce repair cost by 10%.
Finally the Daikin guys replaced PCB (circuit board) and two fan motors for $1660.00.
