Now that the townhouse we are renovating has been painted and the curry smell seems gone, there is an odour coming from some cheap cupboards that are installed in the attached garage. It would be from the previous previous tenants, students, more than five years ago. Can anything be done other than to dump the cupboards? Does it even matter, Mr Angel cant smell it at all. I'm the one with the hyper sensitive sense of smell.

PS the cheap Amart type white cupboards are about the only fixtures in the house that were not dilapidated.

Try cutting onions into segments and put them in the cupboard on a plate. I’ve done this for paint fumes and it’s worth trying.

I’ve just ordered some charcoal mini bags for household odor (and mould) control. Great reviews. Our son has cat litter trays in our garage and I’m going to try this and see how they work. I’ll report back.

Peppermint mouthwash and incense sticks are the traditional home remedy for that particular smell.

Fire will remove any odour. Maybe katpi55 or rot in the fibre panels at base esp if they have been wet.

Or use Margs advice and then post back here in a month about how to remove the smell of onions (tip : BBQ meat over the fire)

Strategically place road kill, prawn shells or a dead mouse in a difficult to access spot eg. in a cavity, hollow curtain rods or in a low section of roof. After a week, you will have forgotten about the dope.

Cutting durian and placing in there would help. Also I hear fermented Russian or Swedish fish would do.

@Noobieboy - I believe that @Angel has recently repainted, I don't think she needs paint stripper.

I used to wash my thick woolen jumper with Lux laundry powder. I found it not only removed pungent smells but also helped maintain natural softness of fibres.

I find that hard to believe - guys from the Druie don't wash jumpers.....You're not really from Mt Druitt at all but from somewhere much further east, prolly that gentrified area of Kings Langley.

I was also thinking about removing the back panel in case there are any leftovers. I could either profit or just enjoy.

Copying this to the owner for her benefit tonight

I have conferred with the Tradies this week and they all seem to think it is actually an aerial born odour from a neighbouring residence. To confirm, I sniffed heavily inside each cupboard whenever the garage seemed to be affected today. The cupboards smelled of bleach and the outside environment smelled strange. I'm reasonably happy but sleepy.

Why thank you Mr Datto. You are such a fine gentleman (Scarlett O'Hara accent here). Always willing to help a lady in distress. What a fine young fella.
