    Hi All,
the above website makes some interesting reading.
Wife and I are about to settle on first IP and will be first time landlords in a matter of weeks. We want to be good LL, however I do not want to be a pushover.
The house we have bought is frankly pretty good as it is.
We will be installing bedroom ceiling fans, small split Ac in living area as well as paint and flooring we hope. Also RCD's ,as the house currently has none and a hard wired smoke. The school of thought is to have the place shipshape and reduce the potential for problems down the track.
Is there any more we can do.
I have been a licenced handy man working for some RE's in the bankstown area some years ago. I have seen both sides, some incredibly bodgy repairs by LL that have put security and safety of tenants at risk, I have also visited tenants where I have had to ''wipe my feet on the way out' of the house.
anyone had a place or know of back stories to any of the listings in Don't rent me?

This has been brought up on here a couple of times before.

Its disappointing that tenants can make unjustified anonymous accusations and tarnish reputation of others whereas landlords / PMs are powerless to warn others about troublesome tenants.

Luckily not many take the site seriously, nor visit it much.

I mostly agree, but often the same is also said about tenancy databases like TICA and NTD.

Not really, since there's conditions on which they can be used. And also timeframes in which they can be used which prevents their next LL / PM knowing about them.

Whereas anyone can go on that site, even if they're some gimp from overseas whos never rented here.

I just had a look at some areas I know that have some real shockers....like....a house with no floor (yep, thats right, just dirt) houses with holes in walls, houses so musty smelling I do not know how anyone can live in them, etc etc

There is a total of 4 places listed & probably 60k people

Website is irrelevant, I can't see it gaining traction as there is no way to verify or stop just a lot of rot being placed on there, 2 I read were because the PM required tenant to clean to same standard as place was given, yet they were moaning about that.

Probably same as many review sites.

There have been publicised issues with negative tripadvisor reviews from people who have never stayed/eaten at the reviewed hotel/restaurant.

OMG, just looked at this site and unless I'm wrong, people that have trouble with their management agent, list the property a Don'tRentMe place, which hurts the landlord.

So the real crooks (bad management agents), get away without any issue!

That's from the 3 seconds I looked at the site. What about something that's specifically around the management agent being bad and not resolving issues. Yes, maybe it's due to the landlord blocking them too (or maybe the landlord is doing the management).

Maybe this is why a more complex system is needed rather than the Don'tRentMe site.
