Neither has Turnbull and you fell over yourselves to heap praise on him so I say let's cut the crap. Turnbull is a lefties wet dream, Trump is your nightmare. Both wealthy out of touch men, but only one preaches the socialist gospel.

P.S. I would not vote for him but the sooner candidate of both sides give up the PC bs the better.

Another side to the "successful" businessman.
"I don't like the B word," Donald Trump said in 2010 while testifying in a New Jersey bankruptcy courtroom about his gambling company, Trump Entertainment Resorts Inc., which had filed for bankruptcy for the third time. Given the number of times Trump has flirted with bankruptcy, you'd think he'd be used to that word by now.

In 1990, the banking institutions that backed his real estate investments had to bail him out with a $65 million "rescue package" that contained new loans and credit. But it wasn't enough, and nine months later the famous developer was nearly $4 billion in debt. He didn't declare personal bankruptcy, although his famous Taj Mahal casino in Atlantic City, N.J., did have to file for it (bondholders ended up taking a 50% stake in the investment). Trump's economic troubles continued through the early '90s, while he was personally leveraged to nearly $1 billion. In 2004, Trump Hotels & Casino Resorts also filed for bankruptcy. The company was only a small portion of Trump's real estate empire, but he did still have to personally cough up $72 million to keep it afloat. In 2009, the same company (by then renamed Trump Entertainment Resorts Inc.) filed for bankruptcy again. Yet during all of this, no one ever told Trump, "You're fired!" Probably because no one could.

There is a fair bit of evidence that many sucessful CEOs are psychopaths as well, that doesn't mean they should be running the country either.
Being a successful President or PM requires other skills such as empathy and deplomacy.
    Trump has neither.

In response to what I said
Turnbull worked as a barrister, and later established a law firm; he worked for a while for Australian Consolidated Press, and established a bank in association with others. I don't know if he's had to worry about paying the mortgage- but at least he made his money using his brains without working for, or inherting from, his father.

Maybe. So what? If the most money qualifies one to be president then Trump loses.

His father was a hotel broker and his mother a radio drama star. Went to university on a scholarship, married into a(the) leading family of barristers in Australia, defended Kerry Packer, was the Goldman Sachs managing director in Australia, invested in Ozemail in 1994 with 500K.

Now I don't begrudge him any of that, I'm as pro capitalist as you can get but let's not pretend the average man and woman in the street will think he could ever relate to them paying the bills.

I think being a successful President or PM is only revealed when he or she become President or PM. Some of the best have been the ones people derided, and some of the worst had the best resumes around.

The thing I like about him is he doesn't even try to be liked/popular/PC in this race - and even tells everyone how he is - unlike everyone else who tells you how good/god fearing/family values/baby kissers/ they are, but often aren't....lots of Public BS.

But, watch him get down to business if he wins.

    Go get 'em Don.

    I reckon it's a great hoot.

Hi Hugh, serious question: Do you actually believe that?

Someone might want to tell the Republican supporters that Trump couldn't be a successful president, because his support base just gets bigger and bigger every week.

    Also, it's 'diplomacy'.

It's a card which may be as suicidal as it is stupid. It's attracted scorn from everywhere, and now he's slipped to second place in the republican race.

I remember when Ronald Reagan was running, and a lot of folks poo-hoo'ed him as just a light-weight washed up actor that everyone loved like a sort of lovable Grandfather figure, but probably wouldn't get far in the running....

The thing with D.T is that despite his over-the-top persona, his political incorrectness and so on; he is basically saying what a lot of folks secretly think.

He upsets the Civ Libs and handwringers; but he doesn't care, and there are a huuuge amount of folks who think like he does, believe or or not.

That alone is enough for them to vote for him, and he might just win.

They have had their share of "career politicians" who are P.C, and on the gravy train and so on...the Americans are screaming for someone to stand up and take action for their Country.

Obama (who is a nice bloke and I'm a big fan) has been slammed for not doing enough/handling badly the whole Isis issue - and other things that he has not had success in implementing/changing....

The Americans are tired of these types of results...they want their Country fixed and this whole radical Islam ideology sorted out.

Is his way the right way? We don't know; but one thing is for sure - it is not getting any better under the current strategies and in-action from other sectors.
