Peter Garrett was a good example.
Backed Gillard. And then see his **** eating grin when Rudd's popularity went back up and the reporter asked Garrett if he would like Rudd to help him campaign in his electorate. Yesssss.

It seems more like they want to get in power (office) then do whatever they can to stay there until pension. This is what Donald was saying about congress.

As soon as they get into office they will kiss anyone's ass to stay there.

When we lived in the US, this was the feeling I got too, about the Congress.

Lots of well-funded lobbyists to also placate their desire to stay there. Did someone mention bribes?

They were often referred to as "The Do Nothing Congress" in the media, and most folks we met hated them and hated G.W Bush.

You know what they say, If con is the opposite of pro, it must mean Congress is the opposite of progress.

I was very lucky yesterday to be sitting in a hotel lakefront bar with some American Tourists watching White House hopefuls debate, and listen too opinions from American people having a drink, without betraying any forms of emotions, just like a coin toss..
But one has to give it too Donald Trump, because just by reading all the faces the calm waters vanished completely once he opened his mouth, the measure of knowledge he has ,his cut throat style comes to the surface very quickly,Jebb-Bush once he said smoked dope 40 years ago blew him out the back door real quick,no one could match Trump in my opinion, like him or unlike him people worldwide better get use to his face..

Aut Tace Aut Loquere Meliora Silenco..

Trump pandering to his ignoramus supporters. The guy is unfit to be in a position of power, hopefully he will disappear from the political race if he keeps this up.

Given that folks (no doubt like yourself, Wategos) are/have been accusing the USA of various bad deeds for the last few decades (or more); how much worse could "The Donald" be?

He may actually be the best thing to ever happen to the USA in the next 8 years.

    He speaks his mind...so what?

    He is not PC...so what?

What do you want? a bloke who only says nice things, takes the easy route so as not to offend anyone, and hands out ice-creams?

And don't think Hillary is squeaky clean either...she's a bit slippery.

Everyone hated Bush, everyone hates Obama....ya just can't win.

The Human Race needs a good kick up the @rse, and "The Donald" might just do it.

Because what he is speaking, and refusing to refute, are dangerous lies, nothing about being politically correct. He does not have the moral fortitude to stand up to a dangerously ignorant part of US society, but instead encourages them.

Anyway the media is on his case now over his latest performance, I don't believe Americans will support such a buffoon all the way to the presidency, he is being exposed for what he is and will be booted from the race soon enough.

When push comes to shove, they will make the right decision.. Till then, there will be a lot of cr@p with the likes of Trump backed by a large minority of equally dumb trash.

    (3) You can always count on Americans to do the right thing – after they’ve tried everything else.

He's got more wealth than this entire forum combined, he owns more real estate than this entire forum combined, hasn't murdered anyone, hasn't been in jail, or hits his wife, does an enormous amount of behind the scenes stuff for folks..basically a pretty successful and very intelligent, very well connected man who happens to be a loudmouth and takes no **** from anyone..

And; is no fool - do you reckon he yucks it up with the half-wit bigot red-necks because he is one?

He's; "just tryin' to git me some 'o dose votes, y'all". It's all just lip-service and fluff.

They elected Arnie to CA Governor, and Ronald Reagan to Pres - both with not a lot of "on paper" creds, and they both turned out not too bad in the context of who went before them and after them.

If he can get the half of the population who are spongers off their arses and contribute to their Country instead of wandering around doing zip and collecting free money, and if he can fix up their crap Health system that noone can afford, and kick their "Do Nothing Self-interest Senate" in the arse and get that cleaned out - he'll have done a fair bit more than a few previous blokes.

Is that supposed to automatically qualify him to be president? Perhaps we should just do away with elections and appoint the wealthiest person to be president?

If his whole reality TV show approach is a move to get the job and then he behaves like a reasonable person once he gets it - then my hat off to him.

    I very much doubt it.

I have no idea what 'yucks it up' means.

I didn't think the USA handed 'free' money for very long, certainly not like we do. Half the USA population are spongers doing zip and collecting free money? Where do they collect the free money from?

He started out working for his father who was already very well off. He's never had to look for a job, and probably never had to worry about mortgage payments or rent for a modest house, or had to worry about money to pay the doctor. He's never had the problems that most ordinary Americans have all the time.

At least Arnie and Ronnie have been through the struggles and made it to the top. They knew much more about middle America as a result.

Perhaps, using the same criteria, we should elect Gina as PM.

One of the current candidates at least is not inflcited with the same xenophobia that seems to inflcit so many Americans. Jeb Bush met his Mexican wife while an exchange student in Mexico, was in a very successful real estate company in partnership with a Cuban immigrant, and opened a bank branch in Caracas, Venezuala. Not that that's enough cred for a candidate in itself, it just counters some of the anti foreigner rhetoric coming from Trump.

It means to "ham it up" or to basically "chew the fat" etc.

In DT's case I was referring to him meeting with the hillbillies, saying a lot but actually saying nothing at all. If you watch that speech, the nasty comments were coming from the hillbillies, and DT was really only saying words to the effect of; "yeah; we'll look into it". Just pizzing in their pocket until he gets in....that'd be normal for a Pollie, right?

Great wealth gives him the power to actually get some action. Some of that action will be wildly unpopular - probably only to the Civ Lib types with their hands wringing, I suspect.

The rest are probably doing a silent fist pump at some of the stuff he comes out with. :p

Having bad manners and a loud mouth doesn't necessarily go hand in hand with doing a bad job....and vice versa.

Do they need a Pres who is going to get out and get things done; or someone with good manners and PC skills that waffles through 5 years and gets nothing done??

We've had those PC type blokes here in Aus; they don't last, and not always effective.

He's not anti foreign; just anti "illegal foreign".

The whole country is too - except for the illegals and those who employ them for pennies on the dollar, paying no taxes and so forth....free money. The Country is awash with this element of folks, and increasing by thousands every week..

The Congress love it because a good number of them have vested interests in not changing the status-quo, and getting richer.

The Donald will get in there and clean house.

Most of them would have no interest.

Bill Gates? Mark Zuckerberg, George Zoros, Warren Buffett, the bloke who invented Ebay, etc? Yeah; right.

Why do you reckon DT is even remotely interested?

It's not the money, and it's not the fame - he has loads of both - it's because he is fed-up with what he sees going on, and wants to change it - and can.
