    Hi all,

Has anyone had any experience in demolishing a very old house (circa 1920s)?

I assume you have to notify council of your intentions, so what paperwork etc is involved? Do you need to pay a fee to demolish your own house?

Also, once demolished (and there is nothing on the block) do you still need to pay full rates - even though water, sewerage etc are not being used?

    Thanks

The LEP will show if consent is required for demolition.

You need to contact your electrical & gas supply authorities to disconnect services. Plumber to remove water meter.

You will still pay availability charges.

    Stop your garbage service too.

You definitely need a demolition permit !
Try getting a building permit for land that is supposed to already have something there....
Council can tie you up in red tape for years if you demolish without their knowledge.
Then there's the fines, particularly if it is heritage listed
