I conduced an experiment (non scientific) with 6 of my friends, both male and female. I had a picture of an 'average' looking man and asked them to rate him in terms of attractiveness 1-10, 10 being most attractive. That's all the info they had. All of their replies fell in the 5-6 category. Then when I told them that he is actually a very successful chef and owner of 9 restaurants across Australia, then asked them to rate him again....after some looking and pondering.. very interestingly their answers suddenly changed to more like 7-8.

Does being highly successful (in any field) make an otherwise mediocre looking person appear more attractive??

    Love to hear thoughts/opinions.

People will find a person attractive if they perceive that that person will help them to get what they want. Its human nature.

It's probably fair to say that people like to be around people who are happy, fun and/or motivated. It's probably a natural assumption that someone who is successful in their field has been motivated to get there. Same deal with owning 9 restaurants. You don't end up in that position sitting around doing nothing. People would probably naturally assume that a person like this lives a life that is a buzz of activity.

Look wise, no. i.e. based on your experiments, they all look the same before knowing that fact.
To validate the experiment you need two different group rather than re-ratings btw ;) so one control (no info on candidate's success)
one experiment (info on candidate's success)
Then see if result is statistically significant

More successful (or feeling more successful), generally gives off a "confidence vibe"
A confident person generally appears to be more attractive.
(Probably explains why women tend to fall for douchebags).

    Think James Packer.

Dude weighs $1.50 and dates super models.

    Trump also comes to mind.

Use survey monkey and plug those photos online, blast people with emails to take the survey. Who need friends?

OR, 3 shown photo without info and 3 with info :p

No. Just look at Donald Trump and Gina Rhinehart

More importantly is how ugly inside some successful people can become. Money changes people and the true test of a persons character is if they remain the same as their pre-wealth selves.

When I was a teenager, I dated a guy who was very good looking. Dumb as a post though, and after a couple of weeks he just didn't seem so good looking anymore. It's amazing how quickly good looks are overshadowed by personality, and I guess it's vice versa as well. People who have achieved a lot have an x-factor that makes them appealing.

    Completely agree @DaveM

I think attaining super success for many will just highlight the character they have always been, good or bad.

There has been a lot of research showing that more physically attractive people are offered better salaries.

Therefore, it is more likely that they are financially better off.

Instead of spending an hour in the gym, spend an hour getting more wealthy as it works out better.
