Does anyone else hate the idea of asking family for help?

    Agreed, short term loans should be treated differently.

    Your father in law sounds like a no-nonsense person of the successful in business variety ..

    So lending money within your family comes with zero risk.

    We did the same early this week with the daughter and partner,as the value came in lower and they needed to funds to balance out the shortfall in value ..
    Myself I never thought about it just transferred the funds ..

    We also do this regularly. We've lent to our sons, and we've borrowed from my brother.

    Learn to accept his generosity just as you want your friends to accept your generosity when you do something nice for them.

    We also love to be generous, and we also find it less easy to accept someone else's generosity. But the person being generous to us takes as much pleasure in being generous to us as we do in being generous to someone. ;)
