Am being treated for an ear infection last couple of weeks, the young doctor that has been treating me has called in a senior doctor twice to discuss my ailing ear, would prefer to see a senior doctor but dont want to upset her or the other doctor as I have noticed if you see one doctor for an ailment they prefer you to continue with that doctor [which I understand], however I dont feel confident with the present situation, what is the correct protecol for dealing with this situation. Sorry for the Dorothy Dixer but I am becoming desperate
Stick with the existing Dr. They are doing the right thing and consulting with others. Just like they would in a hospital. So you are getting good treatment.
Agree. Be more concerned without a senior review. That's two opinions for the price of one. We always confer with colleagues. Otherwise, you can always go and seek a third opinion.
How is the less senior doctor to learn if they are cut out of the loop? Mentoring and consulting plays an important part of the learning process.
I assume this is a GP? I'm with the others. I like a doctor (or any professional) who knows their limitations and consults others. I see an older GP in a large practice, with a dozen or more GPs. They all have different areas of interest so will consult each other in their respective areas of expertise. I also like GPs who try to save you and the healthcare system money. My GP's not cheap at $80 a visit, but tries to save money where possible. eg - this rash is mostly likely a, but could b. Use this cream for a. If it doesn't clear up in a week fill the script for b and try that - come back if that doesn't work. Recently, she sent me to a specialist, but before doing so called him and asked what tests I needed. So rather than seeing the specialist who gets me to have tests done and see him again I only initially needed to see him once. A large consult and medicare fee avoided for me and medicare.
