Good idea! I did like being able to send a quick word with the old kudos system. PM is too clunky as is for this.

I use the likes when I find a post witty or adds to the knowledge of the PC community. It looks like they're staying (all part of the fabric of the PC world!)

I like likes because in 'most' cases they are used to agree with a well written and well thought out post. It works better now that the list of most liked has been removed. What a silly, immature and pointless competition. Now it's about the post, not hte poster.
The old kudos system, on the other hand, made it look like the more green dots you had, the smarter you were. In actual fact, they were more a reflection of how much time someone spent on SS which we all know is no indicator of property success or wisdom at all. Some of the most kudosed members were just trouble makers with little or no interest in property. Others were highly successful and experienced members with a lot to offer.
Still pretty easy to work out who they are without the dots!
@MTR FWIW I do know what you mean by people liking a post that disagrees with something you've said e.g. I liked Simon's post which is clearly not agreeing with you. This could be taken more personally in a more highly emotive situation. E.g. I recently saw someone like a post where the poster was wierdly inappropriate to another. There are people who play that game a lot but it really reflects on them. Most people either don't see it, don't do it or don't care.

Yes, I don't think anyone is suggesting that the green dots are worth going back to - I certainly don't think that part of the kudos system is worth revisiting. If I do implement something, it will be around positive feedback only - not about accumulating dots and such.

Oh yes, that was very obvious, don't worry. I obviously wasn't as obvious!

For some reason the pokey-out-tongue smileys I included aren't showing in my last post (at least at this end). Not sure why, but all good.

I use it when someone posts some good advice or a good news article. Or answers one of my questions. It's a good way to acknowledge the poster without having to reply with a useless post such as 'thanks'

How about adding a dislike as well. :)

Not diverting from the likes thread through. :D

Or we can put a thumbs up and thumbs down.

@MTR , I still dint get how likes can hamper someone's privacy? (Pardon my ignorance).

I love likes. Keep one motivated that what you wrote was liked by people or was helpful to people. Consider it kiddy stuff. :p

I agree with @Xenia and @Simon Hampel , different emoticans are a way going forward.

I believe @datto might have most of the likes for his mt druitt posts.:D

    Regards

    No dislike buttons please
there is already enough negativity here.

Be an encourager, the world already has too many critics.

If you have enough free time to pay attention to the likes people give to posts that oppose your views..... And have time to get upset about it.... You need to find more stuff to do with the free time your wealth allows.

Arguing on the Internet is like winning a spelling contest with a pigeon. You might win, but everyone thinks your a ******** for playing.
