For me it's a non-decision, the medicare levy surcharge that I would pay without it is significantly higher than just paying for private health so it just makes no sense to not have it given the added benefits.

For those that are healthy, not expecting children in the near future and under the MLS level, it's probably a much tougher decision.

That's true, should make it a pretty easy decision for people who can get a quote under what they would pay for the MC levy surcharge.

    Seriously?

I am paying much more than that AND it's still value for money.

Is that extra extras? O thought 250 was to much! I don't use any of that extra crap. I just want a short line to my butcher

Insurance is a funny one, you basically pay for something you never want or hope to use.
Think about that in any other context and how odd it is.

I pay all my insurances for peace of mind but I am definitely WAY behind what is owed to me, especially on private health. The odd thing is that's actually a good thing! Think about that again in any other context. I am happy I have paid a lot of money for something I have got nothing for.

I don't begrudge paying for the privilege of not paying if you know what I mean.

We use alot but are probably still slightly behind what it costs however it does feel good to pick up a new pair of glasses, have your teeth polished or whatever else needs doing without having to tip your hand into the till.

It's a numbers game and if you use the extras and wisely, so you actually use it it's worth it. and it's probably better for you health wise

Our son went to the private hospital emergency department, knowing he would be seen quicker than had he fronted to the public emergency at a public hospital and thinking he would be kept overnight for observation at worst. He ended up in ICU for a week, induced coma for four days, three operations in a week. By the time he was rushed into his first operation, it was too late to ask if he could be moved to a public hospital for free care. It was life and death by then. The ICU account that we saw was $85k and that was just part of his treatment over the two weeks.

Had he been rushed to hospital, he would have got the same care in the public system. But he wasn't in the public system, and had no idea his pain would turn into a life threatening situation.

He won't ever drop his cover.

All of us on PC should pool our insurance moneytogether, those who need it can take from the pool and if we have surplus we use it to invest in property.

There are some specials going on at the moment.
Can get some good deals for switching over to a cheaper one.

Not needing to get a cheap option - platinum coverage until something better comes along.

    Yep I'm insured.

I use the dental, chiro and physio on occasions. Oh and of course the half priced massages. They're geat. The nice Thai girl works wonders on my back lol.

No need. I just had them my health insurance card and they swipe it through the machine. I pay the other 50% with cash.
