Use 1 safe at home for fire protection - not against burglary (although it will deter the average grab and run). The security one should be either a bank safe deposit box or a vault box.

If you need 24 hours access, you'll need to go with a specialized vault company.

Passports, certificates, titles (in particular), physical gold - keep in the security lock up. Keep a certified copy in the house safe.

    Scott is right.

One of our IP's has a safe that was embedded flush into the concrete slab and that sucker is going nowhere fast.

The $99 Bunnings grinder vs the $99 Bunnings Safe - who will be victorious?

After tax time I spend a bit of time scanning everything into pdf and encrypt it into a Truecrypt folder before backing this file in my Google drive and an external HDD. In the case of a fire I always have a record of my paperwork to avoid having to approach the ATO for help recreating it.

Apart from one ring I don't own any expensive high ticket items so no need for a safe.

In terms of security: I have no alarms and a useless dog. Also I'm out at at the moment and I'm pretty sure my door is unlocked. And as I am announcing this to the interwebs I guess I'm pretty lax about security.

Nothing better than having no valuable assets in your home to put your mind at ease.

    LOL
What we do is have several safes installed around the house, they have 3 minutes before the security firm turn up/or neighbours.... will they make it, me thinks NO.

Haha, it's funny, but if that was a TV show, I'd probably watch it:

Thanks for that. I'm currently using dropbox for a lot of docs but it would be nice to set up something a bit better and have a good workflow for incoming paper data -> secure site.

Sounds like us at the moment, no microwave is fun.
Although I would be peeved if one of my guitars went missing.

That's all you need, once those ramset chem-sets go off no-one will lift that safe, but just check with the insurance you use,the safe that I use has a 0ne hour fire rating ex government ,and with a high end grinder I know myself it would take half an hour to gut into the wall door, just make sure you have several photos of your diamonds, some are laser marked,i would be more upset if they stole all of my 2nd books, everything else we own is 2nd hand ..

Best to have a safe visible. Have your valuables stored elsewhere. Robber will spend time on the safe maybe walk off with it. Empty safe sure sucks for a thief.

Those cheap safes are no good. Cordless angle grinder will prob tear it apart in 10mins.

Why would you use a cordless one? I'm pretty confident that MTR has electricity at her house. Plus you don't pay for the electricity ;)

Because they are less powerful and still would get the job done. Plus if doing a job what if the electricity went out.
