Hi all, just curious whether you allow pets at your properties and if you do, do you advertise them as "Pets allowed". I have always allowed pets and advertised as such to help get tenants and being a dog lover would hate for good tenants to be denied due to their fury friends.

While looking for potential IP's near Gold Coast I did a search on the houses for rent in a suburb which had 100's. After clicking the pet's allowed it revealed no available properties. Are landlords just not advertising or do they generally have strict restrictions on pets.

Just looking at it as an edge if I buy would I have more chance of renting out quickly by advertising the allowing pets or not.

For several of our houses we have pets permitted as there is no legislation yet that does not allow an owner to discriminate an application.

I think there is a lot of value in this - I know how difficult it is to find a rental property which will accept pets.

Almost every one of my properties has pets, which is handy in that they are less likely to move due to limited other options.

I agree, I also think most pets are better behaved than some children ;)

We allow pets, most people have them so it seems silly not too. Especially in Perth where getting tenants is so competitive, allowing pets in a nice home definitely gives you an edge.

Not directly related but I tend to notice that pet friendly caravan parks are always full :)
The "on application" sounds like the way to go.

It is common for the agent to not select the pets permitted option when listing the property and therefore it doesn't show up when you search for pet friendly properties.

It is almost always beneficial to open it up to all pets as this gives the landlord more choice and possible to achieve a higher rent as well.
