It is understood that Australian Standards require a minimum of 650mm free space from a gas cooktop to the rangehood.
Just curious that i have seen multiple houses who do not follow this .. some were in the range of 570, 600...

Just wondering how important/critical is this?

    Thanks

I dont know if insurance claims would be denied if a fire started from the stove and it was found to be illegal?

The previous owners replaced the stovetop / standalone oven but didn't replace the rangehood at the time. We moved the rangehood to the legal requirements when it was time for a new one.

I thought it was 600 for electric and 650 for gas. The rangehood normally sits flush with the overhead cupboards (which sit at 600). But with a gas cooktop the rangehood is recessed 50ml higher in the overhead cupboard.

My gas cooker has no range hood at all! I do have a ceiling fan in the kitchen area though.

    I thought it was 600mm gap,,,but it's been a while since I checked.

Many years ago we used to build kitchens to these dimensions.

    144mm kickboard
    720 cupboard
    33mm benchtop
455 to under side of wall units (600mm to under side of rangehood)
720 wall unit (cabinet above rangehood made to suit whatever range was being used)

    Total height of 2072mm

The gap between the hotplate and range is obviously important but I've seen so many hotplates jammed up against fridge/pantry end panel which surely cant be up to code.
