But.... Those guys will be needed to put on the beers. Just let them bring brochures and pens but no hard line sign up on the night

Some great discussions here and I echo @Leo2413 's sentiments that, at the end of it all, investors ultimately need to take responsibility for their final decisions when it comes to property investing. In this day and age of information-overload it's more important than ever to use the resources at your disposal carefully, ensure that any advice being received is valid (and independent) and to consider the facts carefully in every story.

Magazines like API will always have a place, in that they break down investment lingo into readable and comprehensible meaning that's able to be understood (due to the quality of the journalists and contributors who are great at what they do!) and present the human side of investment. There's nothing more than a great story that influences us, informs and educates, inspires and/or propels us into action. We like to know that others have been there before us, made their mark, bettered their situation and had results. We also like to learn from other's mistakes (though nothing quite replaces your own experience) and celebrate their successes (though some are better and more gracious at this than others :D)

As for disaster stories, for those investors brave enough to go on public record, expose the intricacies of their deals and workings, kudos to them indeed. Finding success stories is far easier, and I certainly wouldn't like to be in @Daisycutter4 or @Jennifer Duke's shoes, looking for those elusive and generous souls who are willing to bare all. As humans we naturally look for scapegoats and rarely blame our own lack of education/due diligence, incompetence or ignorance especially in such a public place as a magazine (one that is likely to retain a digital record far longer than the glossy paper it was once printed on)

Keep on keeping on API and churning out the content, good, bad and otherwise :)

    Would love some.
We actually often get criticism for being too Brisbane centric because that's where our office is located (although we use writers from around Australia).

There has been. Actually 2 members from this forum featured recently with over 70% of their respective portfolios in QLD. With the recent boom in Sydney and Melbourne also doing well it isn't unexpected to see investors building up their equity figures and thus featuring in the mags. Now that QLD is on the up, I wouldn't be surprised to see more of these write ups this year and into next.

Look it's a pretty boring magazine, that doesn't tell me anything interesting. I read it to see if any friends get on.

I suppose if they start writing about young-ins doing $3bn developments like Gurner, it'll have no readers.

    Hey @Steven Ryan what's up?

We've put our story forward to magazines if that's what your after. No shame in sharing, but it's not up to us if we get published or not.

@Kate M, I hope a few run your story. It's important for people to see a wide picture, not a narrow view.

I agree with this Steven because I guess the good stuff that happens makes everyone have a feel good feeling about things. For me I think about the tight budgeting, late nights stressing, additional work hours to make extra income, being away from family and loved ones and for me I wouldn't say it was the sole reason but I believe it did cost me my relationship. No money in the world or any number of property purchases could ever satisfy that empty feeling.

Just flicking through the latest issue and I'm disappointed with it already. The focus article portfolio shows a young girl who lost money on an investment in Gladstone and made money through hard work doing a development. The next thing I see is an article about getting back on your feet.

This is too real for me. Bring back the investment porn!

This is just depressing apparently housing doesn't double every 8 years.

I'm going to sell everything and invest in shares
And subscribe to money magazine instead

I know! Who'd have thought the cycle could be so non-cyclical! :)

Maybe it's just me, but I have to say I don't think that comment was very sporting.
