ok, I need some opinions on the most important question in the 21st century

Those Finish powerball tablets vs elcheapo dishwashing powder

the tablets are damn expensive, like 10x the price,

do they work better or are they just marketing gimmick?

Ive been using a few of the tablets, and god I feel like its bling bling of the dishwasher world, and its also making me feel tough

I haven't used powder for years. In fact since using the Fairy ones, I haven't used separate rinse aid either (no need).

I reckon it is personal preference. I prefer the tablets, less messy, less chance of a visiting child getting poisoned, but I guess both should be up high if there is a chance of that.

I buy the tablets in bulk, often from a Kogan email or similar.

The bloke who installed my latest dishdrawer said tablets. He fixes dishwashers, so I figure he's a pretty good source of advice.

Yeah I think Groupon and the like do specials from time to time on big boxes of tabs. Their latest deal for Finish Quantam 288 tabs is $74.95, which works out at 26cents per tab.

I use Tablets, so much easier. Ours are the ones with the coating on that dissolves so no need to remove a wrapper (God i'm lazy lol)

You should try being on a biocycle septic. Earth's Choice are the only tablets you can use, and cost twice anything much as anything else. Same with washing powder

Scullery maid is better. Unfortunately, I've given mine her lifetime off.

You could but I wouldn't advise it.

As to which tablet, I buy whatever ones are there. Being single it can take a while to fill the dishwasher so the purchase last for a long time. Quick rinse of plates, etc and in they go. They're all probably just as bad as each other.

Tried that one many years ago, not enough caustic so there were soap suds all through the kitchen, scullery & scullery maid. We made it part of a regular Friday night's entertainment

    I'm with you.
Feel like a baller chucking a multicoloured tablet with a red ball in it into my machine, with disintegrating plastic bag

If you do a light wash or minimal wash, then the tablets add too many suds and can wreck the seals on your dishwasher.

This advice was given to me in November 2018 by the technician who attended my mothers Fisher and Paykel dishwasher which was leaking. She had to replace it.

He recommended she use powder and use less for a lighter wash to protect the seals.

    Don't powder your seals.

I found powder a bit messy.
Generally I use tablets, but I do have liquid Finish for when I do a 'light' load, so I can put a lower dose in. I haven't tried to work out the cost per load though.

    Edit:
Just had a quick look at the Canstar ratings. My favourite tablets are actually the premium Aldi Logix - but I can't tell if they were the ones reviewed. I'm using Fairy (sorry not sorry, IF) at the moment and I don't like their fragrance.

I get the Finish <insert James Bond film name> ones when they are 50% off at Coles/Woolies. I swear they are Quantum Platinum Ultimate Octopussy or something like that
