Your time is precious and if he is being unreasonable with his requests, he is taking valuable time away from you. My attitude is ignore and sin bin you permanently.

They would've taken the complimentary towels, bedsheets and blankets. The rug too.

We've left things in the two AirBNBs we stayed at... things we couldn't fit in our cases that the owner in Paris was happy to pass on to the lady who looked after the building (a little parasol and some clothing, good clothing, just couldn't fit it in). And in New York we left the owner some chocolates and ice-creams. He was very happy too.

One guy took all the toilet paper, ate or took away all the food, took 1 pillow and a full bottle of shampoo.
Out of all that I was most annoyed about the toilet paper as that's something I would have to immediately replace and you don't expect it. What if I hadn't noticed and the next guest checked in at midnight? I charged him something afterwards.

Other than that i've had a few towels that have been discoloured by a bleach. So best to stick with white towels.

Other people accidently take hairdryers but they usually realise and reimburse me. Others have accidently taken umbrellas but they reimburse me for those too.

I'm pretty trusting... I have dyson handsticks at each of the apartments as they are just easy and convenient to use and someone could walk off with those, but nobody has (touch wood).

    Lol.
If I realise it's been stolen, i'll be charging you. And since it's something that would be used between each set of guests, it's unlikely you'd get away with it.

I try to get a discount on almost everything no matter how small. Could be in Harvey Norman for $28 and I'll negotiate a discount for $22. For the smaller stuff Its not so much about the money as it is my philosophy. I never pay full price for anything if I can avoid it. There is a difference with being' cheap' and being 'Savvy'. Being cheap is wanting to pay a price that the seller would definitely 100% not be happy with and being 'savvy' is to negotiate to a price where they are still happy with the sale and you avoid paying full price. Also for people I give on-going repeat business to and big contracts I expect some discounting.

    Just my opinion.

I ask for discounts too - usually just being cheeky.
Most the time its a no, but every now and then, someone offers a discount. :)

Similar to what @kierank - except the version i remember (because it was stuck at the door at one of my earlier jobs) "If you don't ask, you don't get"

In my business if some one asks for a discount, I will probably give them less service, if they push hard for a discount I will walk away. My time is worth full price and if someone does not want to pay for it, I don't want them as a customer, it's just not worth my time and effort.

I think its partly due to culture, but culture or not, if someone says no or doesnt offer after asking so many times, then culture or not, its rude

Bought 4 kids bikes from a local small business and was happy to pay full price as the product and service was good. He still gave me a discount with out asking which makes me want to support him even more.

That wasn't a discount. Knowing a few bike shop owners, he just moved the price down from Recommended Ripoff Price down to Recommended Retail Price!
