I'm wondering if anyone had tickets to see Rodriguez? We were going this weekend, but the tour has been cancelled due to his health issues. What an amazing man. What an amazing singer and an even more amazing back story.

For anyone who doesn't know much about him, I'm sure you'd recognise his music (especially those of us aged 50 and over).

And the documentary Searching for Sugarman is worth watching (several times). Beautiful story, and such a humble man.

I don't know about over 50 - our 25yo daughter lives his music. She discovered him I think in South Africa - where apparently he was quite famous but didn't know it. (Wasn't that covered in the doco you mentioned?)

Apparently he wasn't big in the US because the establishment wouldn't accept a Mexican (background) being a greater artist than Bob Dylan.

Also some of lyrics eg " I talked to Jesus in the sewer and the Pope said it was none of his god damn business" would have been frowned upon back then.

I saw him last time he was here. He was terrific!

He was so humble and his songs just transported you back to your (my) youth.

A lot of people thought he had died. Its a very interesting doco.

Such a shame that he is ill.

Our sons knew a few of his songs but it is we “oldies” who grew up with his music. And yes the doco tells his story.Simply an amazing film. Worth watching.

We went last time ,plus saw him in 1979 , I love his music but I read he was not well of late..
Power message within some of those songs..

    Quote..

Was it a huntsman or a player
That made you pay the cost
    That now assumes relaxed positions
    And prostitutes your loss?
Were you tortured by your own thirst
In those pleasures that you seek
That made you Tom the curious
That makes you James the weak?

The film doesn't appear to be still on Netflix.
