Just about to install a pool and was after some advice on how much tile/deck space was required around it? Obviously costs a fair bit so want to go as small as possible but still be comfortable. Do you think sides of 0.4 and 0.8 on the short sides and 1.2 and 1.6 on the long sides is sufficient? Pool is 7x3.5

    Cheers

It really depends on what space you want/ what you want to use it for......

Because in NSW the pool regulations may determine your deck size !

Aka, do you want to have a banana lounge, chair or umbrella inside the pool area ?

You will need space to fit these items away from any fence, as the regulations state that no item can be able to be used by a child to climb up or down near a pool fence (so neither inside or outside of the pool area)........

Google "kids climbing pool fence", they don't need anything to climb on (= nanny state)

People tend to congregate. Rather than allow similar distances on all sides of the pool, I would consider allowing minimal distance (around 60cn, enough to walk around or get out of the pool) on one long side and one short side (deep end).

Then allow wider spaces opposite to allow for seating etc. If considering young children, have the seating area closest to the shallow end or swim-out.

    Its horses for courses @Thedoc
We have 1.5m down the long side of our pool (including the pool coping).
3m at one long end & 5.5 at the other. Even then its sometimes as busy as Boxing Day shopping sales at times.

Cheers. How is the side that is 1.5m? We were thinking 0.8m on 3 sides then 1.6m on one (room for a banana lounge and to lay down). Is it decent? So our large side would be 9m long and 1.6m wide

Have you taken into consideration where (if your having one) your underdeck pool cover will be placed?
Moving deck chairs everytime you just want to pull out/retract the pool cover would be a pain.

Don't forget some sort of shading (umbrella hole, posts for shade sale or awning
