    Hello

    My first post here.

Following the posts, I believe this is an excellent forum.

Have been looking for PPOR in North West Sydney.

In one of properties we liked today, Pergola has this deck which is directly on the ground level. Other places I have have some elevation....atleast of few inches.

My queries if anyone can please help on this

    1. Is it really a deck? Being directly on the floor and touching soil, this doubt has been bothering me.

    2. Is it possible to raise it a bit .. by few inches? Would like to understand what are the possible options?

    3. Being directly on ground level, does it have more chances to invite termites or other bugs?

    Appreciate your response on this.

    Thanks.

Yes it’s a deck. To raise it you’d pretty much have to pull the whole thing down, put in new stumps and rebuild it. It would be a big job. The deck looks like hardwood so terminates shouldn’t be an issue.

Decks are sometimes built at ground level, so there’s nothing odd about it :)

Thanks Spad and Firefly99. Appreciate your responses.

Any idea how much it would cost if I have to get it raised?

    1. Is it really a deck?

Yes - low level deck. Is it built over concrete? People often do this if they don’t like the look. No air movement in a low deck can promote rot.

    2. Is it possible to raise it a bit .. by few inches?

Yes - and you can reuse the boards. But if it’s attached to the house, it might be limited to the door threshold height.

    3. Being directly on ground level,... bugs?

Yes - termites. Some wood is resistant, some is not. Is this structure attached to the house - because the danger is termites using it as a bridge to the house.
