Here is a rough round up of news items relevant to Darwin and the Northern Territory around property. An item of note is sine the First Home Owners Discount was introduced 1 September 2016, 1.6 second hand house a day have been sold. Good news for the established suburbs.

Dan Murphy's - this story runs through most of the month. The gist of it is NT Airports Corporation have a swag of land to turn into commercial and the next sub division was to have a Dan Murphy's as an anchor tenant. The NT Government placed an item of legislation limiting the size of liquor outlets at half the size that Dan Murphy's want. Later in the month the threat of court comes up. I did hear a local retailer advise how to get around the problem by having a drive through liquor shop next door to a liquor store.

Mr Gunner was in Hermannsburg to announce his Government’s 10-year, $1.1 billion remote housing plan. This boils down to The Government is bringing forward $10 million for extra bedrooms and living space for existing homes to this financial year.

Darwin city council are to install pop up shade in the city, great I say. About time.

    Planning Notices

A revision to the Berrimah Farm Planning Principles and Area Plan was released.

Amendment 472 takes care of Storm Water, Heritage, Bike Paths, Airport Noise, Community and Aged Care, Public Transport, Parking, Education facilities and provides information about the Secondary Activity Centre (These could be units with shops underneath?). It seems that buildings will go to six stories in that part of the farm.

The other notice that caught my eye as we lived in Leanyer for many years is a rezone from Public Space to Utility to a slab of bush behind Muirhead and Leanyer. From the look of Google maps Section 4224 is adjacent to the prosaically named Sewage Ponds Road. Hopefully this is just to increase the buffer from the residences.

"In sub-clauses 2 and 3 a utility may include trunk sewers,
sewerage ponds, trunk water mains, water storage facilities,
electricity transmission and substation facilities, gas pipelines
    and the like."

Cyclone scoots on by. It has been a while for Darwin but officially the City had gone into preparation mode. No surf though.

More NT Government staff are getting new offices. This is a never ending story that leaves lower quality business space at a disadvantage. It seems there is always a newer building and a department ready to change the address on their letterhead.

On possibly a slow news day the Coolalinga Shoppoing Centre and the Yarrawonga Shopping Centre (Gateway) get a write up. Certainly the Gateway Shopping Centre is being built a lot faster than Coolalinga.

The Northern Gas Pipeline https://gateway.icn.org.au/project/3680/northern-gas-pipeline-previously-negi makes the news a few of times this month, once about the disagreement with a community organisation on access to lands, today about a split between partners and then later about a confirmed go ahead.

The Department Health is looking for 10,000sqm of new office space in the city, a move touted to bring life to the CBD and move Department of Health staff at a distance for the hospitals.

This is a statistic I have been looking for, since the introduction of the Stamp Duty Discount for First Home Buyers (FHOD) on 1 September 2016, 325 Territorians have bought their first home, including 72 in Alice Springs, eight in Katherine and one in both Tennant Creek and the Tiwi Islands. So that is 200 days or 1.6 second hand houses a day.

The next swing shift of US Marines (1,200) are due soon.
