Just saw A Current Affairs report about Carlton NSW residents objecting to a mosque planned in their residential street. Apparently the DA attracted over 4000 objections. I think it’ll go ahead regardless.

So if the area you live in has “undesirable” DA plans eg a place of worship, nursing home, high rise block, mobile phone tower, etc....and of course big projects like Westconnex, is it simply futile to lodge objections and they’re better off just selling ASAP?

On the other hand, developers would no doubt have a different view.

You could sell to developers, possibly for a higher price? Rezoning to higher density generally increases value.

If developers are willing to buy, definitely. I’ve seen cases where homeowners refused to sell out of sentimental reasons or held out for a too high price and the development ended up building around them - making it even worse because no one would buy it now, becoming a stranded asset.

But the worse thing is if the developer is not going to acquire your property but still impact on quiet enjoyment etc, leaving you stuck.

Since when has a church been undesirable?

Had a similar issue when in our neck of the woods salvoes got approval for a retreat ( treatment place for substance abuse). All sorts of ( ignorant? ) objections were ignored. The place does a fine and necessary service for a group of quite vulnerable and easily targeted ppl.

Not saying churches etc are undesirable in itself, they serve an important community purpose of course, but the increased traffic in the street and noise (church bells, call to prayer x5 day) does negatively affect a quiet residential area.
