I put an ad up on seek 4 days ago and have had around 150 applicants apply, out of that cohort I have invited over 100 for an interview but only 3 have taken it up, anyone else in business experiencing anything similar?

Its all on the advert - above award wages, good hours, immediate start, etc

The invite outlines the nature of the business but also asks for vaccination proof, I wonder if this is the deal breaker.

In the past, the stats are usually 100 replies over 3 weeks, 50 invites, around 30 replies

What sort of job is it?
Edit - what is the likely age range of applicants?

    yes exactly,

generally we get around 80-85% migrant or international student CV coming in with a high response rate, this time it is almost all Australian,

people that argue that we shouldn't have immigration are out of touch with what is going on in the real world, many Australians dont want to work.

Very very few international students left here. Most have found their way back home.

A friend has been trying to hire delivery drivers and warehouse office staff. Usually he'd get about 80 responses and would narrow that down to phone interview and that would result in a short list of maybe five to interview and choose from.

The last couple of times he put up a job, he had maybe eight responses in total (instead of about 80). When he'd call to speak with the applicant, he'd get no response, or he'd leave a message and never hear back.

A few applicants didn't turn up for the interview, and when he did choose from the few who did, some simply didn't reply at all to the "we'd like to hire you" call, or had taken another job.

This was happening before Covid but I gather it is worse since Covid when people could earn more sitting on the couch than working 40 hours.

I don't know how to be unemployed.
Seriously what does it take to get there?
When I decided to take 6 months off a few years ago, my phone wouldn't stop ringing.
At least once a month, someone in my construction industry would call me to come back.
Eventually I cave in because of the money and I got bored doing very little. :p

In some ways it’s a reversal of what often used to happen to applicants - who would send in an application - or even interview - and then never hear back!
