    Thoughts?

    We don't need it

I'd rather things were left as they are than become "iconic" or any other thing that comes with it

Put it in someone elses backyard

    :)

The state govt- despite best intentions doesn't seem to have any bright ideas on stimulating economy beyond these big projects. This one plus the queens wharf total $6B between them all privately funded so at least it won't cost us any $$$.

Usual pattern is these things go up and someone in the future makes $$ out of them.

Interesting to see no cruise ship terminal included- it's a huge industry so hope a new terminal can be positioned somewhere less environmentally sensitive- everyone seems to be cruising at the moment even those without zimmer frames...

The GC needs a cruise ship terminal. One that can handle all sized boats - not like the BNE one that can't take the biggest sized and biggest spending ships. While we're at it get a decent sized terminal in Cairns.

I agree. The state government in QLD has no vision except infra projects...and that too the private sector is coming to them with the plans and vision.
The good thing here as you said is that it's private money...and this shows private investors are bullish on seq...to the extent that they want to spend big on seq. Could be worse...if they did not come to seq it would be near recessionary conditions.
The gc is continuing to do what it is known for- a mini sin city of sorts.- casinos, strippers, clubs etc
The real commercial stuff are in the bigger cities of Sydney/Mel /brisbane... And to a much lesser degree Perth.

    Very positive proposal.

People who think this will be a "casino" in 1980s sense need to update their thinking. It will be an integrated resort with restaurants, classy bars, nightclubs, gym and health facilities, pools, convention and hotel, concert and large scale event facilities etc.

All part of the big plan and a clear positive for the economy and property values.

We just don't know, but it is likely to be what you describe. This casino idea has only popped up in the last few days and there is little detail. Perhaps it was the runners up prize in the Brisbane casino deal.

Maybe GC could turn out to be more Vegas than BrisVegas!

Ed. there is indeed a LOT more detail. Trust me on that.

It's just not public yet. But it will be in around 6 months. It's going to be super impressive and a development that will truely be something gold coasters will be very proud of. There is some serious investment and change coming next decade. Wait and see. And really an incredible opportunity ahead both for businesses and smart property investors.

I always thought that a way to increase the Gold Coasts tourism is to make Surfers Paradise into more of a strip on the Southern side of the World like Vegas - open the doors to many casinos and clubs to be built in and around there. Could work. There are a lot of people against the 'idiots' drugs drunks and problems associated with Surfers Paradise - but it is what it is and those who don't like it should just stay away - fair enough call is it not? If its going to be a trashy city may as well not do it half heartedly - go all in and make it bigger and better.

Queensland, like most of the country does have enough gambling addicts getting around however and there are pokie venues on every second corner on the Gold Coast - do we really need another Casino? Far better things to be spending money in this point in time like the cruise ship terminal and getting the tram line down to the airport.

Love Vegas, it's a lot more safer than I thought. Real entertainment place for young and old. The Beautiful and the Ugly all in one place. Friends just came back from Macau showed pictures and I would love to check them out too.

Perhaps the Qld Govt should follow the footsteps of Singapore: Locals to pay Entrance fees !

    speaking of wharf,

whats everyones thouhgts on south wharf in melbourne,

in a time I thought retail was strugglig, eg chadtsone, chapel st

they go and open up another complex in a place where parking is vritually impossible (unless you go into those multi level carparks), and hotels and a few restauarnts

is melbourne really booming in terms of population and spending???

frankly, ive only been to south wharf once and the only reason i go there was if I lived next to it

A $20 bet is not a high roller.

QLD is the king of casinos, or maybe the queen. We have 4 casinos, with a couple more big ones on the way.
