Singapore Suites is first class and not a chair a suite!

It's not unaffordable if your using points the out of pocket would be less than an economy seat.

I use the CBA Diamond Card with Amex/Mastercard co-branded..you get 3 point via Amex and 2 points for Mastercard.

Already have 200k points (100,000 Qantas FF points) in less than 13 months. Comes free with my Wealth Package.

    I have them too

I get 1.5 per dollar in the Amex which is great but the .625 for the mc is horrible

I only know of one other company that does 1:1 on visa or master card with no annual fee

I subscribe to the qantad program which had its goods and bads. For travel only though

ANZ Black is 3pts for Amex 2 points for MC.
These transfer to Velocity at 50%.

However at least twice a year Velocity offers a 15-20% bonus for points transfers, I always warehouse my points with ANZ and wait for these promos.

Sometimes like pre Christmas ANZ also offer 25% bonus on their points.

For example say you paid a $50k BAS bill during this period (I did) this would be the effect:

    $50000 on MC = Surcharge $210
    50000 * 2 pts per dollar = 100,000 points plus 25,000 points bonus = 125,000 anz points
    125000 Anz points = 62500 velocity points plus 15% bonus (run atleast twice a year sometimes 20%) = 71,875

Melbourne to London economy is 62,500 points plus $108 so total cost roughly $300 one way or $600 return if you paid surcharges with ATO for all your points.

Now put that into Business class and your talking roughly $1700 (around $1,000 in taxes and 250k points) for a business class trip return.

I think you are right...in any case I did a quick comparison as a rule of thumb...I am spending about 4700pm. 3700 on Amex and 700 on MC. So that translates to 11,100 Award points on Amex plus 875 award points on MC. So that translates to be about 13,000 points per annum.

If that is converted to Qantas points that would be 78,000 points in 1 year. In two years it would be enough for a trip to Europe.

No one is hard to please here. You have enough points to fly first class multiple times. You've said you would like to. So either do it or stop wanting to. Choice is yours

I wish i could travel etihad but it's pretty expensive and not related to any ff program. i have travelled business and first for the last 6 years. i think singapore and emirates are the best and british airways is the worst. For those qantas ff - you can only use one world related airlines with your credit cards. Emirates for me was one with exceptional service - you can even shower in the plane 1 hour before landing to keep fresh and they offer chauffeur service to most locations. i used them just recently from rome to seoul
