    Hi,

Has anyone ever had a cracked iPad repaired? Any pitfalls/recommendations? Thinking of just going to one of the random repair people in Westfield (not Apple), just wondering if anyone has had any experience?

    Thanks,

    Kassy

Haven't had it happen, but I'd be quite devasted as use mine for both my rental inspections and my open homes!

I'd probably get it quoted from the random phone repairers around the place and at Apple and see how much they all charge. Apple is probably likely to do a better job as they'd have a genuine part vs and imported generic part, but depends on how much they want to charge you.

I'll probably buy a new one in a few months and this will go to my DH or DS so I don't want to overcapitalise. It's the oldest device I've ever had, iPad 2. If it was a computer or laptop I would fix it myself, it will be a new experience having someone else repair an IT related item for me.

I'll have a good back up and pin on it first as well...

Getting a quote from both is a good idea, only one Apple Store here though and it's close enough to work to depress me on my days off lol...

Had many repaired - generally use a Groupon. Not worth going to Apple.

    Good as new after repair.

    What model is it?

If it's an older model, check out eBay for a good second hand one.

Many phones now are extremely expensive to repair- possibly because the manufacturers have a tight hold on parts. An iphone used to cost $100 to repair. I recently bought a $230 phone- quoted cost to repair the broken screen was $200. Galaxy 6 is $300.

Get a good case. I don't know if iPads have screen protectors like phones.

I've 2x cracked a screen on an iPad2.. repair cost was about $110 ea time from a little repair shop. iPads weren't designed to have their screens replaced so you only get an "aftermarket" screen. They're usually OK but if you've bent your case the screen might not stick down properly.

These days I have the phones and tablets covered under RAC's home contents policy.

I had my iPad screen replaced, around $110-$120 from memory, from a little electronics and phone shop in our local shopping mall. Owner did not speak English......

    Works well, no problems.

    Thanks @Tonibell @geoffw @Phase2 and @Marg4000 ;)

I had a screen protector on it but DH reckoned it distorted the picture so took it off. It started as a chip on the edge and then spread on the screen, I don't think it's bent. From the 2nd hand value of the same model and spec on gumtree I think it's worth replacing if it's in the ball park you have all quoted. I'm glad I'm not the only one who's had a mishap.:)

Mine got chipped at MIL's at Christmas and has gradually cracked. More cracks are forming so I think it's time...

I had a cracked iPhone 5s recently. Apple store was charging $208 to repair. Got a couple of quotes from shopping centre places for about $100. Found someone on gumtree who did it for $60.

I doubt if was genuine parts. I suspect the guy worked for one of those repairers during the day, and moonlighted as a at home repairer out of hours!
