• #79 in the world for total deaths (down from #76 last week and #75 the week before)
• #111 in the world for average daily deaths over the past week (up from from #112 last week but down from #109 the week before - but we've had zero deaths for a while now - so this is all just statistical quirks - we're as good as everyone else at the bottom of the list)

• Montenegro jumps to the top spot and joins the 5% club along with Luxembourg which jumps into 2nd
• Slovenia continues its rapid rise up the charts, while Georgia also has a massive jump into the top 20
• Georgia and Austria join the 3% club and along with the Netherlands push Chile, Brazil and Peru out of the top 20

• Tunisia jumps up the list to join the top 20, along with El Salvador pushing Kosovo and Colombia out of the top 20
• Australia is up to #14 with still no deaths since October

• Boznia and Herzegovina and Belgium the strong risers this week, pushing Ireland and Sweden out of the top 20

#1: US still topping the charts - showing a bit of a dip this week, but that could be more due to a lack of testing over the Thanksgiving weekend.

#9: Turkey jumps into the top 10 with some massive daily numbers in the past few days - given how fast their deaths have been growing, it seem as though they have suppressed their case figures for several months and are just catching up now

We're not equal bottom for average daily deaths this week because we had one death (I believe it was an elderly patient infected back in July who never fully recovered).

• Russia overtakes France for 4th place

• Montenegro continues to see strong growth and now has over 6% of the population infected

• US back up over 2,000 deaths per day on average - the worst they've been since April
• Hungary and Indonesia join the top 20, replacing Czechia and Belgium

• Some of the smaller countries shooting up the list - North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Slovenia
• Slovenia and Armenia join the top 20 replacing Panama and Colombia

• Bulgaria shoots up the list as they manage to stop the rapid growth in case numbers but deaths continue to rise (deaths tend to lag cases by at least a few weeks)

#1: US back up with strong growth after their Thanksgiving break in reporting anything. A few days with well over 200K daily new cases now. Deaths now averaging over 2,000 per day for the first time since April.

#2: Brazil showing strong growth again - replacing India in 2nd place. Deaths starting to tick up again too.

#3: India continue to make good progress with numbers heading down again. Deaths are steady.

#4: Turkey shoots up to 4th place overall with their sudden discovery of literally 10 times the daily number of cases they had previously - curiously it seems that they decided to hold off on starting to report this until after the F1 Grand Prix was held. Deaths continue to growth strongly.

#5: Russia still seeing strong growth in both cases and deaths

#6: Italy's continued progress sees them drop down to 6th place. If they are lucky, then deaths may have peaked also.

#7: Germany continue to make slow progress in keeping the virus under control - while their deaths continue to grow strongly

#8: The UK's progress seems to have stalled this week as they start to open things up again - far too soon in my opinion

#9: Ukraine have had a better week, but their growth still sees them move up to 9th place

#10: Iran are back in the top 10, replacing Poland who have made great progress this week. Iran's growth seems to have topped for now, and their deaths are dropping off as well.

• US into the high 15 millions now
• Turkey jumps from 18th to 8th with a huge jump of 824K new cases yesterday - I am still waiting for confirmation that this is correct, but from what I've been reading, Turkey may not have been counting COVID cases who weren't showing symptoms - which is not how the rest of the global community is counting them. This jump could simply be them adding in all of those cases they hadn't been counting. I will update the stats if this information proves incorrect.
• Netherlands jumps up into the top 10, replacing Belgium

• Turkey's new data distorts their daily average (and will for the next week!), putting them temporarily up to 2nd place overall

#1: US continue to set record new daily highs with 231K new cases yesterday - and more concerningly, record new highs for daily deaths, with 3,309 deaths yesterday.

#2: Turkey shoots up to 2nd place with a correction of over 800K new cases added yesterday - but I'm still waiting for confirmation that this data is accurate. Deaths continue to rise strongly, up over 200 deaths per day now

#6: Germany up into 6th place with a sharp uptick in their average daily cases this week. Deaths continue strong growth.

#7: UK up to 7th place, their lockdowns made a difference - but now they are seeing growth in numbers again - exactly like I predicted. Deaths still trending down for now.

#8: Italy continue to do really well, dropping down to 8th from 6th last week. Deaths also starting to trend down now too.

#9: Ukraine starting to show good progress now - deaths still trending up a bit, but it could take another week or two before the lag start showing improvement.

#10: France replaces Iran in the top 10, not a huge upswing in new cases, but they are also not dropping. Deaths have stabilised somewhat too.

#1: US case numbers still around the 220K per day. Deaths continue to find new daily highs - peaking at 3,345 deaths in a single day this week with a daily average of over 2,600 per day.

#2: Brazil back up to #2 after Turkey's data correction - continued strong growth in case numbers and deaths.

#3: Even now that Turkey's correction data is not affecting the average daily case count, they are still up to 3rd place for daily new cases. Unfortunately, the spike from last week will make the chart almost unreadable moving forward. You really have to wonder whether the suppression of reporting of case numbers was deliberate on the part of the Turkish government? Deaths continue to grow strongly and Turkey is now up to #11 in the world for average daily deaths.

#4: Russia up into 4th position - case numbers have stabilised somewhat but deaths are still growing

#5: India's continued improvement sees them drop down to 5th place for daily new cases. Deaths are still trending down too.

#1: US case numbers drop sharply over Christmas - no doubt due to a lack of testing rather than any actual improvement in infection rates. I would expect to see a sharp jump back up again once post-Christmas testing resumes.
