Don´t know about other countries but the Spanish antibody survey was pretty large and robust (61000 people). From the Lancet medical journal:
    https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(20)31483-5/fulltext

Results were not uniform, some areas of the country only had 2% infection rate, other areas 14%, average 5%.

Saw that rapper that's suppose to be running for president on some clip doing a speech. Reporters bunched up and crowded all around him he's literally yelling would've been spraying them good, no one had masks. 77k a day , wonder what it'd take ?
Some states are still demo'ing , maybe 500k a day might have some effect.

Just spent an hour or so reading the New Yuck Times' articles on CV in the Rio Grande & the 'ethnocide' in the Amazon's indigenous populations.

Pretty eye opening stuff that you don't hear about in Oz.

If it's taking 7-10 days for the results of testing in the US to be made known, how inaccurate are the published figures and daily reported number of cases?

How much worse is the reality?

It's been touted that the reality is ten times the numbers reported.

So now Trump is finally acknowledging that things could get worse before they get better (although he followed that up with a remark about how the virus will disappear).

He has asked Americans to wear a mask.

They are things worth saying. But they should have been said months ago.

All part of his re-election tactics is all, losing more ground due to his handling of the whole virus issue so has to try and win some of that support back over the next couple of months. Watch him take credit for any advances in vaccines in the next few weeks and how he was instrumental in it and he will make sure Americans get the most beautiful vaccine in the world and before anyone else.

I think we are all underestimating USA in their response to COVID. Now say a large enough percentage of the population was to get infected and develop antibodies, then future outbreaks would just be like the seasonal flu and only claim around 100k lives.

Compare that to China where virtually no one will have immunity outside of Wuhan. So if the virus was to find its way back to China then restrictions and lockdown all over again (same situation for Australia also).

Add in the anti China sentiment being stirred up worldwide and the alliances against them that are being proposed and there is now a very positive outlook for the USA in regards to holding the status as the worlds no.1 superpower.

Nah, the ultimate strategist. Waits until it all looks bleak (& it is), then gets on board with the recommendations.

Goldfish syndrome will set in with the masses who will think that he's the saviour as he is fronting the campaign with daily media presentations.

    Popularity soars, gets reelected.

I have thought this since it first hit the US. They ignore it until it hits significant part of the population , then acknowledge the problem and hope to come out the other side as fast as possible. Many would call it inhumane etc but the reality is that every life has a dollar value attached, the only question is at what point do the scales tip.

We wont know for a decade which system worked the best as this has years to pan out but one possibility has the world moved on and psudo immune whilst a place like NZ which has its actions in high regard is internationally locked down for years.

Interesting article on ABC today on how low the influenza deaths are this year, will that mean we are more susceptible next year and see more deaths?

This time last year 430 people had died from influenza. This year it's just 36

This will be a topic analyzed and studied for decades to come.

Yeah well the flu things a no brainer.
But yeah l often wonder about NZ in that way , lt's one thing being Covid free in a bubble , but they can't stay in that bubble for yrs on end.
Then again , maybe the vac saves the day.
