Interestingly, when considering 1st dose vaccination rates, Australia has now passed the US & Germany and caught up to Israel & Sweden. We still trail the UK, NZ, Canada and Singapore.

Our fully vaccinated rate is now the same as in the US.

Obviously, our 2nd doses are still trailing these countries because we started late - but we'll catch up pretty quickly, and based on those 1st dose numbers - our 2nd doses will pass a lot of these countries in the next month or two.

Getting tough in Russia. Moscow into a 10 day lockdown. All unvaccinated residents over 60 and those who have chronic conditions but are not vaccinated to remain "at home" for four months. Only 30% of the population is vaccinated apparently.

    A change from previous rhetoric.

And Singapore is having issues as well including the number of 60 yo's not vaccinated but accounting for 66% of ICU beds.

That has to be really tough. Must be a very concerning outbreak or medical facilities that aren't coping i'm guessing. Can these people go and get vaccinated? It's a great incentive....

There are reports some hospitals have run out of available beds. I understand there is a great level of resistance to vaccinations for various reasons such as mistrust. It could have impacts elsewhere for example any movement into adjoining countries.

Eastern European countries have terrible superstitious antivax sentiment which is why they are hit hard at the moment. Romania is the worst, majority don't want the vax.

Well - I know if I'd lived under such regimes the inspired massive lack of trust, corruption, people disappearing into the night, murdering political rivals - I'd be very hesitant to inject myself with any substance they are promoting

I haven't checked, but is the Russian vaccine even good enough?
I know many countries (I think Australia as well) will not accept it as proper vaccine.

Came up in my tweeter feed:

Lots of conviction, she loves Trump, so not surprising she failed to mention that the US has 700K+ people who have their PPoR 6 feet under (2,217 death per 1M), while Australia has 62.69 death per 1M.

This person is extremely dangerous ... young, female, black, educated ... so comes across as representing the "minority" groups, and therefore trustworthy. If you run her thru Politifact (the fact checking website) the majority of her social media posts are either outright "false" or "mainly false".

I would bet money that, although she'd deny it until blue in the face, she is fully vaxxed ... just like the rest of those media personalities that are pushing the anti-vax agenda

Oh - and her squeaky white husband is the CEO of Parler

Wow... she is dangerous. The Queensland she is describing is not the Queensland I'm living in.

    Totally agree.
Trump manage to get some very good "influencers" around him.
It's the new norm; "influencers" can change the masses sentiment. Who needs years of experience, tens of peer reviewed papers, hundreds of hours of research and teaching?
All you need is just to look good and know how to talk. Or in some cases - have a sexy body and the willingness to expose it and you're the source of what type of medical treatment to take or what political policy is the most effective...

Funniest thing that I've watched all day.

(I must get out more often as I have to wear a mask to walk the streets, can't go more than 3 miles from home, sit on a park bench or outside of curfew hours - How many of these actually applied in Qld?)

    None that I recall.

Wasn't the helicopter flying over just a "one off" thing. Just shows you those who follow this type of "news" and are claiming everything else is fake news are watching actual "fake news".
