Further to the previous comments regarding "lockdowns versus deaths"

The UK stayed open to save it's economy - Victoria went into lockdown to save it's people - back in September both had 700-odd cases.

Having a look at the figures

    - UK population 66.6mil
    - Aust population 25mil
    - UK pop 2.66 times Aust

    - UK deaths 72,600
    - Aust deaths 909
    - UK deaths 79.9 times Aust

    - UK currently in hospital purely due to covid 24,000 (tying up beds)
    - Aust currently in hospital purely due to covid 19
    - UK hospitalisations 1,263 time Aust

And now the UK is practically in complete Tier 4 (stay at home order) lockdown ... they have been confusingly bobbing in and out of lockdowns for months

With the Victorian lockdown, not only did we potentially save 28,400 lives, we also kept a functioning economy. I know what path, in hindsight, will be judged the correct one

    Also had a quick Google
    UK economy $2.83 trillion
    Aust economy $1.5 trillion

So we're punching above our weight there as well based on our population.

Arrrrrrgh ... not going is a no brainer. Even if one didn't have covid before going to Disneyland then they'd certainly have it after.

Idiots like this are why the U.S. is in the dire position it is

"England is entering a third national lockdown that will last at least six weeks"

How about ... "England is entering a third national lockdown that will last until numbers are low enough for us to keep it under control because we couldn't take the hard decisions to lock down properly the first two times" ??

Well over 1 person per thousand population has died from COVID in the UK.

If had a similar death rate in Australia, we'd have over 22,000 deaths right now compared to the 909 we do have.

With New Year's festivities just passed and a few new rallies in Georgia for the Senate runoffs (some were still very maskless) there's bound to be another spike in time for Inauguration Day.

Thank looks like another nasty outbreak asking to happen, what's sad is that I'm not shocked or surprised!

Australian Government is now under pressure to allow only people who test negative to fly into Australia. For us on our end, it’s definitely not a bad idea....

Heard a story from a friend who's family member recently returned from the UK.
She was being paid £2,000 a week to continue working as a nurse, but it all got too much so she came home.!
It was explained that we have no concept here in Aus, in the UK they have temporary cold storage facilities for storage of the deceased, as all normal facilities are full and the bodies continue to literally pile up....
    Scary

We really have been quite lucky !

A cousin of my wife caught Covid-19 from her husband (this is in Mexico). Her husband died (mid 50s I think) but she survived. However, although she's physically better, apart from grief, she's now deadly afraid to leave the house, for fear of a flare up or catching it again. She doesn't really know if she's immune, and this is going to affect here for some time
