763 in hospital - 69 in ICU ... that's a lot of general and intensive beds not available for heart attacks and strokes and accidents etc

    That's promising!

Apart from males aged 60-69 every other case fatality rate has decreased.

Could be good or it could be bad. The lower fatality rate in the older age groups could be because:
    • a lot of them are already dead; or
    • it is now the turn of the younger persons to have more serious outcomes.
I have no answers and can only observe what happens over time with the virus. I leave the whys and wherefores to those whose job it is to study these matters.

The numbers are a good story. The case fatality rate does not suggest that young people are having more serious outcomes as the case fatality rate for 0-59 has decreased. My theory of why older age groups are improving is because the numbers were skewed by the nursing home outbreaks in 2020.

Ideally Covid would not exist. However, from all the recent numbers it certainly appears that Omicron is less severe than Delta.

These numbers however are only up until the end of October - before omicron really took hold. I would be expecting, from reports so far, that case fatality rates will be lower.

QR check-ins are for casual contacts, not just close contacts.

I'd still like to know if I was in a venue with an affected person, even as a casual contact, just to be extra careful about monitoring for symptoms.

What's the difference between the first and second?

Interesting to see such a high impact on younger people.

That's from.over 148,000 tests, a big increase on yesterday's 97,000 but not quite as many as the day before. About 14% positive.

As far as government is concerned, you are under no real danger of catching covid this NYE as long as you party hop every 4 hours!

Ken Behrens does hate being left out so decided to obtain 462 new cases yesterday which is 209 more than the previous day. Looking to aim for the 100%+ per day in the future. Must try harder.

Who knows, we may well be under 25,000 by then given the rapid spread o_O.

I just checked out 2 private testing centres in the city and both are closed until 4th
That should help keep numbers down.

Omicron in South Africa has peaked and numbers are declining according to channel 9 news. The peak took 6 weeks to reach.
