It sounds like you’re having a tough lockdown?

Thanks for that link. One passage reads:

“For instance, 43% of the population of southwest Sydney (one of the focuses of the current COVID-19 outbreak) was born overseas; up to 71% in certain local government areas speak a language other than English at home.

Yet, translated information and communications about COVID-19 have been sparse, intermittent and not all has been appropriate. The original source materials in English are too complex, official translators are not used, and/or translations are not reviewed to make sure the information makes sense.”

I disagree with you regarding “they just do not care”.

Also, it’s not just a handful. In the link provided by SatayKing!

“For instance, 43% of the population of southwest Sydney (one of the focuses of the current COVID-19 outbreak) was born overseas; up to 71% in certain local government areas speak a language other than English at home.”

And while they may have other family members communicating with them, have you ever played Chinese whispers?

Also, one simple example I can provide is the word “visitors”.

If the Govt message re lockdown is “no visitors to your home”. The intention being no-one comes your home.

But to some cultures “visitors”, does not include family members who live elsewhere, eg Aunt, Cousin.

Believe that it is a very generalised statement - there are a lot of people do care

SBS TV and Radio dont have the same funding like other commercial ones so cant expect them to deliver instantly or within hours. Staff might have to do preparation and upload contents based on their allocated timeslots on SBS

The real problems are two obvious - communication and plan. Since Scomo took his jabs in Feb, was there a blue-print or a plan that communicate to the people? Who are going to get the vaccines and when, where, how and etc? When it is not a race it does not have a starting or finishing time, does it? How about all that **** about AZ for certain age groups and then back and forth or 1mil Pfizer doses for Aus?

Recollection that some of us were laughing last year at the fact that China built a hospital in a week to deal with covid patients. Scomo banned citizens from coming back in Apr with threat of prison on Delta. Have we built any specialised quarantine centre since last year? Looks like most of the outbreaks are from returners or visitors. That's already 18 months since. What's the role of the National Cabinet? ;)

Some people might not care because they dont see people are dead in hundreds or thousands or they might have to work to survive or for some that they dont really care at all, so what the govt are doing to them? What are the govt plans for different group of people?

I think it's inevitable that a lot more pressure will come from private and government organisational requirements for vaccination of employees. In the US they've just passed rules for over 2 million federal workers mandating that they get vaccinated otherwise they'll be subject to 2 weekly COVID tests, social distancing requirements and travel restrictions.

No only is the USA imposing some limitations. France, Greece and Italy are going down the same route as per below.

lol...really ? you think so... very funny.

This is what people do or say when they dare not tackle anything that may be controversial or difficult, just assume someone is doing it tough, cranky etc etc

How bout...instead of blaming gov co, which I admit botched some things collectively...here is an idea....learn the lingo of the country your adopting and actually take part and become part of it....it is actually part of taking on a new country you would think, no ?

Too many here and elsewhere would never dare have a real hard conversation or discussion re such things, it is all about being PC now.

Anyway, come forth all the excuses....and how the poor sods are targeted by a racial police force and racist Gladdy & co, I hear the horses wanted in on it too cause they prefer the Eastern suburbs (irony in that name) over the terrible SW LGAs

For fear of getting off track - but nothing of the above has changed in regards to new-ish arrivals for the last 70 years, starting with the Europeans after WW2. My ex-MIL was Dutch and never learnt English to her dying day - how many Italians still spoke Italian as their main language ... then those from Cambodia and Vietnam in the 70/80s - and now those from war torn middle east regions.

Same old same old. I could probably go back further, to the convicts, when most spoke with such broad local dialects then no one could understand them

I was in Aldi (Mentone Vic store) an hour or so ago and saw yet another arrogant shopper wandering around the shop with his mask around his lower chin.

He was not happy when I commented that ‘it only works if it’s over your nose and mouth’.

(And English was definitely his first language!)

Seriously, what kind of idiot takes his mask off inside a crowded supermarket when he could wait 20 minutes and take it off outside.

    You can’t fix stupid.

Well, seeing I was part of a family that migrated, not that long ago, where English was not the 1st language before coming, and, seeing I have mixed with and worked with and many friends also from these families....

The good oil, is it is an excuse, I was trying to make that point, but people think it is a race thing or picking on a group, in fact, many of them are far more aware that the Aussies I know !

Why ? cause they all have own lingo TV and news and speak to people from places where it was a big problem when we were thinking it is nothing.

Stop the pandering which I see as often condescending, and put the blame where it lies, with people who do not care enough, whatever that reason is, it is a total nonsense to assume they are cut off from the world, stupid, maybe, not caring, maybe, non conformist and trusting, sure thing for many, not able to get any info on Covid...oh, please.

Sounds like the Ekka has been canned for the year due to the Brisvegas lockdown.

I do not wish to live in a country where things like Medicare are provided to some and not others, because once it becomes conditional, it will always be tempting for politicians to use it as a method to trim the budget. Remember the robodebt scandal??

Some govt programs have to remain sacred

Well, I had my Pfizer jab yesterday. The super rude receptionist assumed I wasn’t eligible and tried to send me home. I told her I’d talk to the doctor and to book me in and he was fine with my eligibility. I’ve never been so happy to have a sore arm!

I noticed that we have moved from 38/38 to 36/38 in the OECD for vaccination. People are thankfully coming forward in droves. 15.2% fully vaccinated and 17.7% one dose now.
