All Arab/Middle Eastern countries seem to be under reporting deaths. Even if you adjust for age, they seem too low. Likely like Russia, where only deaths are counted where Covid was the only cause of death, but not where it was one of the factors.

In Russia they are doing very little testing ... and don't perform autopsies (unless you're rich) ... so, unless you'd been tested, and confirmed positive, they don't consider you died of covid

Well , the vic thing is very disheartening no doubt about it and huge numbers for us , yeah.
But look at it this way , Canada 39m not even double us over 100k cases. ltaly 60m,not even 3x us 270,000 and still getting 12k a day , Sweden 9m less than half us 78kcases , so just a few of the top of my head. But as bad as vic is really for us, Aust is still nothing compared , just prayin it comes down soon none the less.

Note that I have renamed this thread "COVID-19: Australia vs the rest of the world" (previously: "So we are not winning COVID-19") - to make it about comparing our response to the virus and how we've managed the outbreak vs other countries.

General discussion about COVID-19 in Australia should go here: COVID-19 in Australia [Health & Family]

General discussion about COVID-19 in other countries should go here: COVID-19 in other countries [Health & Family]

Please keep this thread for comparison discussions.

The big difference between this war and others is that the rebuilding is only economic not a physical rebuilding of facilities, infrastructure etc.

All economies will require rebuilding or investment, spending & stimulus.

as I previously mentioned, seems like we are the poster boy/girl for countries that went hard early and have suffered greatly in the second wave
I feel like the aus government werent perfect but did the best they could in the circumstnaces,

that being said, I wonder how other countreis would have fared if their second wave was like ours, especially some asian countries, I can only assume it would be catastrophic

If Australia wasn't an Island and had the same population to land mass as some of the more populated Asian countries, I believe our whole country would be in a state of mass disaster. We have applied the most basic fundamentals only in comparison to Asian countries like Taiwan, Singapore, Korea ect.

Ya, l worry about that too. lf it can happen in Vic , Spain , not sure what others , it can happen anywhere . There is that UK vac hopefully out in Sep , haven't heard anything new on that since the announcement but quietly hoping all will go ahead. Must be others pretty close too by now.

Government money is basically endless, especially if the battle is worth the fight.

And this one is IMHO. What other option is there?

It took Britain 55 years to pay off its WW2 debt. I would guess that most British folk would agree the fight was worth the debt.

That is why people, especially younger ones, need to take this thing seriously.

Otherwise they will be 70 to 85 years old by the time Australia pays off this debt, if we aren’t careful.

Maybe. However, as you probably know, what works in a petri dish doesn't work on mice let alone people. Probably 95%+ of scientific research results in a dead end but that's the nature of always trying to resolve the issue involving "I don't know."
