    Hi,

We are currently going through the design process for a new house we are looking to build and will then be applying for a building permit through a private building surveyor. We are not going though town planning and do not need a planning permit.

The main question I have is do private building surveyors dig into covenants to check the property complies with these in terms of specified building materials?

We have an old covenant dating back from the original land subdivision in the 60s which restricts us to brick/brick veneer and tiled/slate roof. I have been advised that the courts have ruled metal roofs are acceptable for these convenants.

Does anyone know if the building surveyor gets involved with these covenants?

    Thanks.
