Council rates gouging

Were you aware that the majority of councils in Queensland charge higher rates to investors?

    I called council a few days ago and requested my rates notices be sent to a different address than my Brisbane IP address. I have just received a letter stating that unless I send back a declaration of owner occupancy, they will change my rates category to the non owner occupier version. I wasn't aware of this issue until now!

    What happened with your Gold Coast property Codie?

    What actually is a declaration of owner occupancy?

    A one page form declaring that the owner resides permanently at the property.

    I done nothing about it and they eventually changed it themselves. Obviously had enough information to make that call. Can’t quite remember but I think it pushed it up by $600 a year

    Just got my first gold coast council rates notice. This is for an IP house. $3,500 p.a. o_O

    Cat 2A, $650,000 AV.

    In Sydney my rates are less than half that.

    Wow Sydney rates are cheap then. That's conparible to BCC.

    I just dug up my Sydney rates notice. House on lower north shore. $1,629 p.a.

    Was looking to invest in Coffs Harbour
    Average rates for an average ($850k house) $3,400 !
    My rates in Sydney for a $1.6M + house $2,300
    Sure the Coffs Mayor is building new shire offices after the only recently built one's, but what the ......
