Im looking at purchasing a property in the redcliffe area in Moreton bay and council has lost the records for final building approval due to council amalgamation... but has the plans. They consider the property to be in the application status of historic building application which means it is considered to be finalised due to lack of records and age of property.

My insurer will cover normally and getting building plumbing electrical as well as structural engineer and building compliance checks to mitigate any risks.

Any thoughts on anything else that should be considered or done?

Get a statement from council to that effect.

Having worked with 2 councils and their hostile amalgams, it's not surprising. Either the councils had poor record keeping, they're poorly archived or lost.

Thanks Scott it sure isn't :). This is what they give you on the official building and plumbing search results and what my insurer ticked off...what do you reckon?

Due to varying legislative requirements, complete records are not
available. Plans and/or information may be retrieved through a Building
& Plumbing Record Request search by submitting the prescribed form
and fee however, the status of the application cannot be provided.
Please be advised that Council has no outstanding requisitions in
    relation to this application.
