I need mine! Facebook, PC and to communicate with airbnb people (enquiries and current and future guests). If I was to be on jury duty i'd be in trouble.

Amazed at the number of parents talking/texting with kids trailing behind them not taking a bit of notice of them when I go for my hour long walk of a morning - minus my phone.

Do what I do and go somewhere there is no signal. Longest time cold turkey has been 7 days. That was in a remote part of the Indian Himalaya. Was worth it ...

Will be hiking in NZ in March. Will have several periods of 2-3 days at a time without a signal.

A double-meaning on that one. I'm on a capital growth safari in other assets classes at the moment.

Do it. I once went on holiday to the Phillipines a few years ago for a week and took a spare old iphone just for Viber/whatsapp for relatives but no emails. Had such a relaxing holiday. Not sure if I could do it’s again as I have a serious iPhone addiction that is out of control

Once my wife told me she wanted to go to an island, with no cell coverage.

We ended up going on the Indian Pacific, and stopped at Broken Hill. From there we took a day trip (ie one set of clothes) to Mutawintji National Park. We were trapped by a storm, which then flooded, and trapped us on an island of land surrounded by said flood water, for more than a week. There was no cell coverage.

I told her to be careful what she wishes for...

As a fun additional fact, when it floods, all the snakes, mice and spiders go looking for dry land.

We semi-regularly go camping in the bush and most times there is little to no signal. I love it!
The thing i like most is not getting calls from work for OT. I never HAVE to take extra shifts but its hard to say no to 200% so there is no pressure when i cant get the calls in the first place.

Didnt have mobile telephones when i was 21 so its a wonder why you cant do without them now
My first one was in 1992 a very large phone as big as a laptop.
    Very expensive

Nowadays people have no respect face down walking along the street not looking where their going

I am on Optus, so frequently go without phone connectivity... Actually just spent the weekend camping at Patonga and had no coverage. Plenty to do though, so didn't miss it. I guess a big problem is my phone has most of my sources of entertainment/education on it. Fortunately I had my spotify playlist downloaded, and a couple of financial planning books in my kindle app, so it was actually quite productive - read without distractions of other internet things.

    cheers,
    Inertia.

I use mine a lot, because it's there.

If the battery dies, it doesn't bother me and if I go away on holiday I can happily leave it at home.

So yes, I "can" go without it but wouldn't do so just to prove a point, if it's there I will use it.

Indeed! This is an annual trip we do - only about 15 families this time, down from ~30 last year :)

Was pretty busy - I didn't even get to the pub for a sneaky schooner.

    Cheers,
    Inertia.

In a heartbeat i would throw it away, due to business this is not possible.I preferred the ring me on a landline, or even better, talk face to face with me.I also had a pager once, then you had to find a pay phone to call back, smoke signals would have worked better.Maybe i am old school, well actually yes i am.

I would find it impossible because I need to check emails, social media and the other time saving apps. To be fair there are some apps that are counterproductive and I waste valuable time on it but it's probably good to de-stress from the fast pace of life.

In China, it's even easier as social medial apps and youtube does not work, but of course there is a way around this in order to make it work.
