I assume with what is currently going on and NSW doing much better than VIC,

Could NSW see and influx of VIC migrants?

    Coronavirus Victoria live updates

Article suggest maybe migrants from VIC moving to QLD?

    Opinions please.

I think a few people will move but it won’t be to NSW. The beneficiaries will be predominantly QLD and SA.

I think it’s not IF but when NSW are back in lockdown. The perception here is NSW aren’t doing that great and compared to other states they are a clear second for worst performing.

'Beneficiaries' is an unfortunate word to use.

Suggests then backs up with terrible data such as

    upload_2020-8-7_9-18-51.png

    Wow 3 phone calls - it's a veritable flood!

People will always move to follow work/employment so it does stand to reason that people who are unemployed in Melbourne/Vic will consider moving to improve their position.

I actually think we'll see some come to WA, SA and maybe Queensland more so than NSW.

haha good point. We are the walking dead down here. Funnily I was speaking to my dad who is from VIC but has been in NSW since after the first lockdown.

He said we was playing golf with 2 old ladies and he might as well of had the plague.

I remember a REA telling me back in 2003 that they were thinking of changing the Port Douglas postcode to begin with a 3 instead of a 4 as so many Victorians had moved into the town.:D
    Probably still happening today!

I think that is what the Victorians tell them self's to better accept the reality fo whats going on in own state. Its like when you fail an exam and other classmates walk out and also failed you feel much better about yourself.

    In contrast.

I would say with 20 case becoming low teens and now travelling at 10 NSW is doing great.

Before the break out in VIC we were constantly in single digits considering we have open borders and more Overseas head offices than any one else all while accepting overseas arrivals.

People may want to move to Brisbane but the opportunities are simply not the same for now as Sydney.

I don’t tell myself anything to feel better about our Victorian shambles. We are a mess lead by the most incompetent Government of all time.

I am replying to this thread. NSW were by far the worst state in the first wave. They currently have the most cases outside of Victoria. You mentioned yourself very valid reasons why NSW is an increased risk to other states. So why would anyone be leaving here for those pastures?

And by all accounts from basically every NSW based person I speak to, the thinking (only a few small clusters, we got this) and behavior sounds somewhat very very familiar.

Without having a go as believe me I was in the same boat. But anyone who makes comments like “yeah we only have a few small cases, a few clusters” really is ignorant to how bad it can turn and how quickly.

Well, the weather is warmer in WA/SA/QLD/NSW/NT... I don't enjoy the cold... It feels like spring in Sydney.

Anyone else find it strange that NSW dont impose a short term lockdown?
They could easily find themselves in the same situation as VIC. To pretend that NSW residents are better behaved than VICs is laughable, just go back a few months and look at the photos of everyone on the beach

If cases explode in NSW and VIC improves then we will be going round in circles because the states cant synchronise their efforts

NSW gov is just as negligent as VIC gov - the whole cruise ship thing ...

I think NSW numbers speak for them self? When compare to VIC.

Interesting I would move to Qld for the weather.

In the line of work I’m in our operational abilities in Qld were more constrained in so we could not move.

Atm NSW numbers are really low, so a lockdown wouldn't be necessary. If they start rising again, then yes, for sure it should be considered. I am amazed the numbers are so low though, and I can hope this trend continues. But it just takes one infected person to spread it to potentially hundreds or more.

Can people in Victoria afford to live in Sydney?

Nope.. but they can afford to live in TAS or QLD very comfortably, or NSW north or south coast. They seem to like the cold though, so I imagine TAS will appeal a lot when it's possible.

I think off the back of this there will be some migration changes. If VIC continues to struggle for a couple of years, interstate migration may surge.

I remember a time (~15 years) that everyone was leaving VIC in droves. Jobs were hard to come by and the place was really stagnant.. throw in the weather and people couldn't wait to get out.
