If you think it will catch water eg in torrential downfalls, then yes it will be worth it.
    If not, then leave it.

Thanks guys for a quick reply.
I think I will leave it as it is, as I don't think the driveway will catch much water. We have not had any problems with the old driveway (which did not have any drain) in the past 2-3 years, and it is not like our property is at the lower end of the street.
There should be gentle slope of concrete away from the garage and the street also slopes away from our property, and so there is reasonable surface run off in place.

    Hi
I'm needing a concreter to re-do 2 driveways which are too steep.
Could someone recommend a good concreter that does the Northshore in Sydney?
    thanks so much!

I am in the process of doing my 2 driveways at the moment. I got the old driveway taken up last Saturday and the area widened and the second driveway fully excavated. 130m2 approx. It will be getting done in charcoal mixed through the concrete and a swirl broom finish.

So far it is costing me:
excavation including removal of old driveway $2750
    steel and chairs $450
    sand $170
    concrete hopefully $3000 max
    coloured sealer $500
    Grate/drain $110
    labour for concretors $1000
concrete pump if we don't use wheelbarrows $1000
    total= $8980 which equals approx. $70m2

Geez, at these prices, I hope I don't have to replace my driveway anytime soon.

It is over 100m long and, from memory, 3.6m wide. That will set me back $25,000.

Might have to ask for a volume discount :) :).

That steel price seems extremely cheap for 130m2. What mesh are you using?

Who is doing this work for you? Or are you doing some yourself? I'm moving to a new place shortly and replacing the driveway would do a lot to add to the street appeal.

My neighbour has done the work for me. He done the concrete at my house and I done the carpentry at his house

HOW MUCH DOES CONCRETE COST PER SQUARE METRE?

Recent survey reveals going rates for Concrete in Australia

A survey produced by leading Perth Concrete Technician, Professor Harpreet Singh from Murdoch University provides insights into concrete prices. “This has been the most challenging survey I have completed in my career”, said Professor Singh.

Price ranges observed in the survey were:

    • Grey Concrete $55m2 – $75m2 per square metre (m2)
    • Coloured Concrete $75m2 – $95m2
    • Stencilled Concrete $85m2 – $105m2
    • Exposed Aggregate $110m2 – $150m2
The prices are based on the following specifications and assumptions:

    • 100mm Concrete thickness
    • use of reinforcement mesh
    • cost of premixed Concrete (ex batching plant)
    • Supplying tools and form work
    • Contractor-supplied labour
    Ben’s tips
My observation is that prices for Concrete certainly vary a lot and it’s important to remember that price varies according to the job. To achieve a perfect Concrete job, here are my tips:

    • Contact your local concreter for quotes
    • Get three quotes
    • Ask to view each contractor’s work
    • Don’t be in a rush – consider your budget and the quality of the finish you want
    • If you cannot afford it, save up until you can!
    • Remember: The cheapest isn’t always the best!

    * The survey began in November 2016 was sent out to 3000 Concrete businesses in Australia

OP, you could save yourself some dollars by going grey concrete and tintseal to just about whatever colour you want these days, no stencilling or colouring needed.

My Dad has a concrete business and $100sqm sounds about right.

Machine hire to break up concrete, tippers to move it, costs at tip to take concrete (not sure if you have a concrete recycler around) will be the bulk of your costs I'd say.

Bigger driveways and slabs mean that the $sqm can be lower as the size of the job makes it worthwhile.

    Regards,
    Arc
