What's an ultrascan? Do you mean ultrasound?

I had one the other day, and cost me nothing through the public system.

If you find a a bulk billing doctor then you also don't pay anything for consultations. I guess you can get some pretty crappy bulk billing doctors, but mine seems to be ok.

Unfortunately those in the country don't have a lot of choice. Our local bulk bill doctors surgery - well - one can understand only one word in 10, so simply have to nod and agree with whatever is being "said". They're lovely people .... but .... I'd rather be in the know and able to converse with my doc where health is concerned

Thanks I made $3000 again today like I do every second day from my my $3000 invested 5 years ago in PME when I realized how much money is in medical imaging.

I had an MRI on my hip a couple of months ago (only one hip, because I couldn't afford to get both done, although I have the same issues with both). Approximately $500 and nothing back from medicare at all.

There is an extremely short list of MRI's that do get medicare rebates. And that list is further restricted so only some people can in specific and limited circumstances (ie, age restrictions, only if it is referred through certain specialists, due to particular reasons, etc). The coalition have been whittling away at these services for years, and they sneak these changes through because they do do it in increments, and nobody cares until it actually impacts them.

    No, what the neck !

Maybe you can buy your own and hire it out when not in use, like people do with other throw away stuff like trailers ?

There's an MRI unit near us. It runs 7 days a week/16 hours/day & it's constantly busy. A small staff of radiologists, reception etc. Not a cheap setup (I can't remember how much the MRI machine itself cost) but the business model seems to work.

I can't see that either. The initial $3,000 is now worth around $90,000 I think - fantastic growth.

But $3,000 every second day? That's over $500,000 per annum.

Sorry, I may have missed something.

Where are you guys going to get these scans done?
I've recently had just under $1,500 worth of CT, MRI, Ultrasound and I'm not a cent out of pocket.

I don't think I've ever paid a cent for a scan of any kind.

Its not so much 'where' you get them done, as 'why' you get them done, who gave the referral and how old you are. 'Where' does factor in a price variance, but doesn't so much affect the medicare rebate.
If I were under 18, my hip MRI would have been bulkbilled. If I had gotten a lower back MRI I wpuld have been rebated. But hip MRI's for adults over 18 only attract a rebate if they are referred from certain specialists for specific reasons. I did not qualify.

There are big variations in areas, in much of Syd most Drs bulk bill, go elsewhere and you may find most do not, or a limited number, the ironic part I often find with professions and trades is the high living and business cost areas are looking for less money......in areas with low costs they often seem to try and claw every cent from you.

I suppose like most things you need to ask questions first.

Used my head this time and looked for a Xray & Ultrasound practice that bulk bills, appears there are three places in Newcastle one of which is PRP in Adamstown. Was quoted $272.50 by Hunter Imaging for a breast screen [xray & ultrasound] only have to pay out of pocket $37 to PRP as they accept my Seniors Health Care card which the other thieves would not!
Ah, well - live and learn

Don't know. No matter what I've had a scan for, I've never been asked to pay anything. But, then I've always walked out straight after the scan, unless they had to give me a DVD. Maybe I wasn't meant to just walk out

Yeah, I go to high business areas.

It is only on days when the stock market is open so about 100 days a year. The returns are exponential. In march when the price was $14 a share I mentioned it here and some of you scoffed when I said I said I could get returns in one week that the dividend investors gloat about getting in a year. Well my 4000 shares have gained $40k in about 30 days of trading

Ok. The impression I got was that it was income - but it's from fantastic growth. Well done.
